Save it. We have no idea from your auction photos if they're taken within a month of each other or are years apart. It's a legitimate question.

Haven't you been paying attention? It obviously needs well more than a belt. It certainly needs a recharge and probably repair of a refrigerant leak. That much has been admitted to. But as wagon1 points out, it could be as much as needing a new compressor and perhaps more, and that can run to hundreds of dollars.

The point is, we have no idea about the A/C on this car, and neither does the seller. But his ad implies otherwise.

My inclination in situations like this is to assume that, if it really only needed a belt, that belt would be on the car, and the seller would be highlighting the fact that the A/C works. We wouldn't be hearing this lame excuse about how it's 30 whole miles to the nearest auto parts store. The fact that the belt has not been replaced likely tells you something.

No you save it! I already posted that the photos are a month apart.

You posted it here. Big deal. Post in the ebay ad, where it belongs. And fix the misleading comment about the A/C while you're at it, and then you'll be back in the good graces of the station wagon selling gods.

Can't even get the English right, can you. If you're going to make personal insults, at least get the English right. You'd have a lot more credibility that way.

It's "you're," which is a contraction of "you are," as in "you are an ##$%@."

Thank you, by the way. Same to you.

    No great loss.

Not that your opinion really matters to me jaunty but I have been answering questions about this wagon truthfully all afternoon. And yes, I've been telling them that the A/C is currently not working.

I'm not asking for my opinion to matter to you. I'm asking for an honest ad. I realize that does make me one hell of a villain.

Interesting. I see you added this comment to the auction listing:

"I will try to get a new A/C belt put on before the auction ends."

Wonderful. Will you then inform potential bidders whether or not this actually fixed the problem?

I'm sorry to have dragged you kicking and screaming into the world of honest ad writing. As has been noted, you're a long-time, respected member of this forum. I'm surprised it was necessary.

Didn't you sell the gold 73 buick years ago? The other wagon peeks into one of the pictures and that is why I ask. There is a lot that happens in a few years time.

A conversion to 134 cost me time, and money for a can of oil and Freon to fill it. IF your crafty and have the stuff available to fab your own R12/134 hose. It's a piece of cake.
Also the belt is of 89.9 % of a LOT of these 70's cars simply because even with the air NOT ON it eats gas and were removed. Irreguardless when empty I personally would replace all needle valves and O rings in the system and clean the filter and recharge.

If in fact it does need a pump get on the derby site and buy one. scrap is crap right now and I bet ya could get one for a 10 spot.

I never tore into it to replace the leaking o-ring at the condensor as 134 is cheap, and it only leaked 2 cans out. Like clock work you could put 2 cans in and be good through the summer. Hypocrisy at its finest on this site, people complain about rusty cars, then a clean car shows up with low miles and mint interior and they complain again. Sounds like all a certain guy wants to do is stir the pot. And I am guilty of taking the bait. Won't happen again. He can have his opinion

And its bid to $7,000. Apparently no one else is that concerned with the A/C

Exactly. I would bet that most people considering the purchase of a 42-year old car have enough common sense to expect that the a/c and other things may need significant repairs.

This guy reminds me of some who have inquired about my vehicles. They want a classic car, in #1 condition, for a thousand dollars.
