Least helpful ad ever. No pics. Mention of the 400 V8 means it has to be a LeMans rather than full size.

That's very sad. Looks to be highly optioned - cornering lights, power tailgate, sport mirrors and finned wheel covers.

That's definitely a full size. Could be a 400 in '76, the 455 was optional after all (even though most seem to have it) LeMans Safari looks very different from the Grand Safari.

Pics up now. It's a Grand Safari - clamshell.

Looked exactly like the 1976 Pontiac brochure Grand Safari. What a shame.

Wonder if Vetteman61 would want to put a 1976 front end on his Grand Safari. This Pontiac looks like a true wealth of parts for just $400.

I sent an eMail about it. I can tow it all the way home, no doubt.

Very cool. Thanks. Too bad this Pontiac has gotten to this shape. Look at that roof rust.

I resubmitted to reflect in the thread it really is a Grand Safari. Looks just like the brochure 1976.

Plenty of good parts for $400.

For four bones and towing, I think this would make a decent start to a resto, even if this ended up a parts car to redo a rust-free used-up Safari wagon.

With what we can see of that rear window rot and roof rot and what appears to be quarter panel rot, I'd say anyone who wanted to save it would have their work cut out for them. If the window seals are bad it will have been getting water in it for a long time and not being driven means it will be pooling inside (until it rots out the floors and spare tire well).

What exactly causes roof rot at the very top? I mean I know you should not store a car in the woods, but still. Seems like that part, if anything, should drain away quickly.

Water wicks up under and/or seeps into cracks in the vinyl covering the roof. My first car had a vinyl roof, and it was trashed when I eventually pulled the vinyl off. On that car, it likely is held in place by the trim surrounding the window and rear opening.

The Vinyl were not the only ones to rot tho. Pretty sure leaky luggage racks in poopy climates that use salt are also to blame.

All of that info is really unfortunate on what is a really rare and loaded Pontiac Safari clam wagon at this point 40 years later. I've asked for interior photos. We'll see, I guess.

I'm set to buy it, if all goes well even though I'm like 566 miles away from him. I've been talking to the seller with emails for days. Apparently he has to get a new title since the one he has, has an incorrect VIN - I tried to call my insurance about it and they couldn't find the incorrect number. He said it's so rusty that even the VIN plate has rust on it - rockers and roof have that too.

Should I get it I'll be parting it out considerably much. That's what I'm hoping for, I realize it's a bit early to ask yet I'm wondering if anyone here's interested in parts off it.

If the floors and doors are good on it I would be interested in the shell.

I realize it may look like I'm counting chickens before they hatch, though if I have the wagon and if the floors and doors are good I'm willing to sell the shell. Dunno how it is up close except for what rust I can see, seller told me the rockers and roof and quarter panels are all rusty and I know I'm not about to start it immediately since there may be rust in the gas tank and who knows what else.
