Leave it to Beaver! Safeway will deliver groceries ordered 24 hours before flight-time to our North, from there it goes by Dogsled or SkiDoo! http://www.cbc.ca/canada/manitoba/story/2009/05/08/north-safeway-foodmail.html http://www.safewayfoodmail.com/
I don't know about the "safeway" here in the lower 48, but i did walk into a grocery store and i saw a dood with a apron shopping with a list and i asked him if he was getting his shopping done while at work, and he said "oh no, we deliver to the groceries to the older people, they just phone their order in!" i was pretty amazed at that. i can see it now.... "What is this? fruit juice? NO you little snot nosed bastard i said prune juice!!!"
Heck, the Safeway in my hometown is the only one I know of that has Docking! http://www.gokenora.com/webcam.shtml If you "start control" of the webcam and click on the "Laurenson Creek" preset, you'll see it.
We pay $4.59 for a gallon of 3% milk, here. Those Northern folks, pay $14.89 for the same thing, and some ridiculous price for diapers. Since they don't work much in -50F, they make a lot of bambinos. Helps to keep warm and save energy. The problem is they only get whatever they can fly up, or if the railroad tracks are safe. No roads.
That's a nice deal if you ask me. I remember when I was very young and my mom was pregenant with my brother and sister, that they used to carry the groceries to the wagon for her. I thought that was so neat and Mom and Dad explained that it was commonplace when they were younger. Wish that they still did the niceities like that more often these days.
