Hello, this has been awhile sense i'v been here, I have a 1976 Ford LTD Country Squire Wagon I bought back in August of 2014, I have a Question about her, behind the grill (in the middle of grill) there is a censer of some sort, i was wondering if any one here would know what it is? Thank you Mac.

i cant remember what years they had the auto-dimming headlights.. but i think way before your ford..so probably is some sort of temp sensor
I've got it on my 1979 Wagon. It adjusts the incoming AC air temp and controls the compressor clutch. e.g. If you climb from a hot valley into a cooler mountain highway, it will keep the AC ready to fire up, but make the inside air closer to what's comfortable, until you descend into the hot valley again or you shut off the AC, for straight heater operation. Good gas-saving control. They're copper, so cleaning it off makes them more efficient, especially if you car is where they use roadsalt - baking soda and water or Brasso does a nice job. Don't coat it with any kind of paint or clear coat, although wax helps prolong the frequency of cleanup. Any clear coat will make it less sensitive.
You don't happen to have a picture of it do you? Or a part number I could use to look it up? I need a temperature sensor for my wagon, stock sensor is out of the question, so I'm looking at any possibilities. Thanks!
What year ford or mercury? Its called an Ambient Cut-off Switch. The Ford numbering system's central digits are the Part Group - before and after those 4 to 5 digits, deal with year, model, and engineering or Left Right ID. For that part the part group item number is 19618. So for my 1979 Fairmont, the part could be D9BZ-19618-A, in fact, it wasn't changed for 1979 models, so the part is D8BZ-19618-A (1978 Fairmont) This is from my 1980 EVTM (Electrical Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual) for a 1980 Fairmont Oops: And here's a list of who's got them NOS: http://www.rearcounter.com/results.php?s=19618 Look down for the Year Letter C=1970s, D=1980s, etc. Right click to open the details page and keep this on and look down to see who's got them.
