I am wondering if the seat covers from a 4 door sedan would work on a 6 passenger wagon. My Pontiac needs seat covers and a friend just stripped a mint sedan interior out. Front seat is bolt in, but I want the seats to match. I was wondering if I could pull the covers off the rear seats and switch them

That's a good question, my 1st guess would be no, as the wagons back seat folds down, and the sedan doesn't. But at the very least you should be able to take both seats to a local Auto upholsterery Shop and have it modified to fit the wagons seat. I did that when I found a Power split bench seat for the front of our 78 Impala wagon. I took the good front bench in along with the badly torn Split bench and they were able to recover the split bench with a mix of about 80% of the plain bench cover and 20% of the split bench. Turned out very well and cost about a 1/3 of a made from scratch cover.
I hope one of the Clamshell Guys can give you a better answer. Good Luck with it.

I think it will work, the folding part shouldn't affect the cover. I have had tons of sedans and wagons and never thought about looking at them. I know an 8 passenger will be different since it's an 80/20 split

80/20? That would make the smaller part awfully narrow! :)

I always thought the back seat was split more like 1/3 - 2/3 (or maybe 70/30) as there is one set of seat belts on the 1/3 part and two sets on the 2/3 part.

It might be 70/30 but it's pretty small!!!! LOL. I also wonder if a sedan carpet set would work

There is no need to settle for a carpet designed for a sedan. When I needed a new carpet for my '73 Custom Cruiser, I bought it from a place that made it to fit my wagon, and that included the part of the floor behind the second seat and fitting up under the third seat.

I bought the carpet from this site, and if you go through the year, make, and model of car selection process, at least for me, Custom Cruiser showed up amongst their choices.

    http://www.varkmotors.com/

It's an Ohio-based company. Click on "carpet" at the upper left and go through the selection process. I had a very good experience from them when I bought the carpet in 2010, and it has worked just fine.

One thing the selection process does not do is distinguish between two and three-seat wagons, so I called them to find out if they can do three-seaters, and the guy said yes. It may turn out that the carpet for a sedan is the same as the corresponding two-seat wagon. I don't know. You could call them and find out.

I think a 2 seater is the same. I will call them. Thanks for the lead

I just need covers. My seats are good, the vinyl split at the seams

This was exactly the situation I had with my '73. The second and third seats were OK, but the front was split and torn in several places. I just took the seat out of the car, put it in the back of my pickup truck, and took it to a local auto upholstery shop. We went through his catalogs, found a very good fabric match, so I left the seat with him, and about 10 days later I had my beautiful new seat.

I see people all the time on these forums talking about these specialized upholstery suppliers like SMS or Legendary, and I've no doubt they're fine, but your local shop can do quite a bit, too, and likely has access to pretty much any fabric out there.

Here's what my front seat looked like when I bought the car. Dried out fabric. Splitting at the seams and getting a little worse every time I sat in the car. Still had the original carpet, too.

Here's what the seat looked like after I got it back and before I put it back in the car.

Installed back in the car with the new carpet. I went with a redder shade of carpet as I didn't really like the sort of drab, "saddle" color that was there originally.

Looks great. How much did they charge to recover the front seat?

In the interest of full disclosure, I actually had them do the front seat and the bottom portion of the smaller of the two second seats. It was torn up, too, the way the side of the front seat was in that area on the side just above where the power seat controls are. You can see that in the first of the photos above.

For all of this, it was about $700.

Nice. That's almost more than the car cost though. LOL. It's worth it though
