Just had the oil and filter changed on my Subaru wagon.
Found out car needs some front suspension work.
Car still runs great and gets great fuel mileage.

Finally located a local supplier for SEM products. I picked up a can of Color Coat today in what turned out to be almost exactly the right colour for painting my steering column that's been sitting on my workbench since October. Given that Color Coat is an actual flexible coating for vinyl and plastics I opted to respray my steering wheel and airbag as well once I had the steering column done. It looks fantastic. As long as we get decent weather I'm putting it all back in the wagon tomorrow. :yippee:

    Oh Yeah!

I'm starting to wonder if that's the way I'll have to go. If I got Cragars though, I'd probably get 15x8 all around.

Yesterday, after looking at a long laundry list of projects for the wagon, I settle on one I THINK will be reasonably quick. One of the backup light bulbs was burned out, and I'd already purchased a replacement set at a local auto parts store.

I get the old bulb out and compare it with the new bulb, and it's obvious there is a problem. The old bulb is marked 1076 and the bulb the auto parts store sold me was marked 1156. The old bulb was a "double bayonet" style with two contact points, while the new bulb only had one contact point. It obviously wasn't going to work.

All the auto parts stores and catalogs both in-store and online swear that the single-point style is the correct bulb. I haven't checked the other backup light to see if it is the same as the burned out one. Instead, I went online and found the correct 1076 style bulb, and with any luck, that one will do the trick. I'll find out in a few days when it arrives.

So much for a quick and easy repair project!

Oh, yes. PLENTY of dents, but no broken glass. The same can't be said for some of our other cars, though. Luckily the Gran Torino was in a different place that didn't get hit. It already has had broken glass for 35 years at least...

Monday, since I can't go anywhere with a friggin' expired driver license (discovered that on Friday!), I plan on cleaning, clay-barring, and waxing the Ford wagon! The paint on the car is in amazing shape for a nearly 30-year-old factory job; and rather than pay a detailer to do it, I'm gonna do it. I've used a clay bar on several cars before with wonderful results! In fact, that is what I used on my old '91 Merc wagon, and it had a nice shine to it when Mike came to OKC to pick it up. It does wonders on both light and dark cars. It's worth the time and effort to really make the difference between simply waxing over the nearly-invisible crud that sits on a clean car, and ridding that crud with a clay bar, then a good waxing with a carnuba car wax. Tomorrow is supposed to be warm and overcast, so I can do this outdoors.

    Keeping it alive

So with a long weekend I had some time but no money and thought what a better way to spend a nice day then to work on The Wagon.

So I busted out the toothbrush, robbed the kitchen of Dawn and water in a spray bottle, and some aluminum foil, and one of the Wife's Diet Pepsi's. I always praise her for her support! if not for her where would I get all the material needed for todays Project.

So I scrubbed the grill and headlight bezels then moved to the back and worked on the Bumper

My daughter snapped a couple pics of me in my Zone.
Can't stand up for long periods (Damn Arthritis) so I brought a Chair!

as you can see you can only polish a terd just so much! Left is before right is after!

I have to say Diet Soda and Aluminum foil works pretty dern good.

This begs the question...was it also the wife's toothbrush?

    There's support. And then there's SUPPORT. :rofl2:
