This winter beat the crap out of the clear coat, it's pealing everywhere and whats left looks like crap. I can't believe how fast it spreads like cancer when last summer the car still was a respectable 10 footer that shined. The wood is going also, I can't justify the cost of new. The wood still looks great but the passenger front fender a couple spots have flaked away. The passenger rear quarter was hit and run a few years ago also so there is some rippling where I pounded it out and a "bubble spot" has started also that I want do deal with. I went and had a friends body shop in town give me a "don't bend me over the hood" estimate yesterday. He gave me a more than fair price if I remove the wood myself and it's not like I have no time so I'll go that route. I'm hoping to get the car to him with in the next 30-60 days so the Buick will be fresh for the summer. More pics of the problems later today but here she is as it sits now. You can't really tell as it's a bit dark (car looks better in dim lite now). I'm just trying to visualize it with no wood in the same colour. I thought about 2-tone, but I just can't think of a colour combo that would look good. This pic is from last fall, September I believe........... I have extra set of the same rims in a #8 condition (I'd rate the ones that are on the car at #4-5 and I have a set of steel rims some where stashed in the barn that I would prefer with dog dishes but I'll have to find them as I remember they are a wide 15, but can't remember the bolt pattern. This is the look I would like to get, but in my colour....... (Can anyone photo shop this into as close to my colour as possible?) I'd rather spend the $ on the Beateor but....... patina like my 83 I can handle, put pealing clear to me just looks so welfare I just can't deal with it! And yes it will be base/clear again ( I need T-Man's Dad to come over and build onto my shop for covered parking) I guess when I start the tear down I'll have to dig the 83 out of slumber as I'll be stripping all chrome, roof rack, bumpers, everything of the Buick for paint and that would be way to ghetto/welfare to drive around Expecting some sunshine today so I'll post pics of the bad latter.
I think your wagon will look great all maroon painted. I always thought I'd like one with the wood grain but see it's a pain in the bottom after several years. The Buick still looks good in the dark. Maybe it's a 100' footer now!
I love that color. I think it will look great in solid maroon. One thought, why not paint the woodgrain area a similar shade of brown, to keep that woodgrain effect?
Well, a 50' footer anyway I have a crude colour editing thing on my PC (witch I can't seem to save any pics for some reason) and played with some 2-tone options, nothing seems to look good to me. To be honest I'm even thinking of eliminating the chrome around the wood all together, but not sure just yet.............. Time for a change, just not sure what route to take Camera is charging, pics to follow.
I vote you apply the Designer Series Regal look from the same era. Bet it would look great on the wagon.
Ever since I can remember he has just kept adding on to everything since I was a kid. I ask why he just don't build it big enough the first time and he always says then he wouldn't have nothing to do!
It's ten miles to town. Between us and town there are several old guys who keep adding garages, small pole buildings, lean tos, small vinyl pole shelters, and whatever they can think of. None have old cars or much to put inside that I can see except maybe a few boats and their daily drivers. All lots are from 1/4 acre to several acres and there isn't much bare land left. I think it's another sickness some have.:banghead3:
Pics of the clearly gone to crap coat over one winter....... I'll take Patina any day over this crap. every day!
Hit and run pound out, hard to get a good angle that shows it. Passenger rear dog leg. Hope all is well below the rocker chrome but won't know until........ Passenger front fender wood fail.
.................................................................................................. Drivers side, the wood is mint.
Maroon with gold or beige would work. So could maroon with a lighter shade of the same color. Otherwise solid maroon looks good and then you could go with a gold or beige pin stripping just to break it up a bit. Another idea would be paint the car a solid color then take the chrome that surrounded the wood strip it and paint it (again gold or beige) Just all ideas to get the wheels turning!
Humming and hawing on how the wagon would look with no wood yet leaving the chrome on, I think I have my answer and it's a "NO". From JR's thread I have a bit of a visual on how the entire car mite look and seeing just one door with out the wood, the chrome will be gone except for the rockers...... http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30482 I'll still remove it all with care and store it just incase some one down the road needs pieces ( would prefer to sell complete when it happens)
Well they are not exactly what I would prefer but painted the same as the wagon I think they would look OK with a Buick logo over the bow tie. I'd prefer plain steel rims with dog dishes but I emailed rather than phoning and wasting the sellers time with a low ball offer of $200 firm on my end (I'm cheep) cash in hand today for.......... http://www.usedvictoria.com/classified-ad/5-bolt-Chevrolet-GMC-15-x-8-Rally-Wheels_21764833 Buying wheels when they should be the last thing on the list, I blame this on the T-Man because if he didn't do that for his new wagon I wouldn't be doing it, that's the story I'm giving my Honey!
Those are the wheels I had on my 1987 Silver and grey Chevy van. I like them! My 41 Ford and my 48 Chevy panel truck need new wheels and tires. I keep wanting to replace the chrome reversed wheels and baby moons on the 41 Ford and get another set for the panel truck. Neither is done but I think I can tell my wife it's okay to get them because 1tire Dennis bought new rims.
What I would do, personally, is keep the wood moldings. Then, check the 84/85 Buick LeSabre brochures. That burgundy was available those years, and was also available as one of the colours of the factory 2 tone option. Paint the 'wood' area the contrasting colour if there is one of the options that appeals to you.
