You don't mention that part, you just say a 3 hour tour ,,,, A 3 Hour Tour, and maybe the weather started getting rough, and body shop man was lost......... And they all lived happily ever after........
I can remember using a hand auger and boring a hole in a foot of ice to sit on a cold bucket all afternon to catch little fishies. Why? Did it for years. Now when I reach in the cooler at Wal-Mart to catch a package of fish I get chills that last for hours!
Good News Good News! Last night I told Hubby that I was going to go to the body shop and have a chat with Denny. If there was no time line on getting Fannie's work done then we were going to bring her home! Hubby stopped into the body shop this afternoon on his way home and guess what? They had put Fannie indoors Thursday before the blizzard on Friday and the freezing rain storm that we had... I was so relieved Hubby was too. I had visions of 10" of snow on/in her and then the rain would have melted the snow...I was really getting worried. She does have a car cover on her but that can only keep out so much weather. Anyway the best part is they have a guy coming in to start the work on Thursday...the day after tomorrow... Before Hubby left he reminded the young guy to email pictures to me when they start the work. I'm afraid to be excited.
You don't have to be excited fannie. We'll do it for you...... Oh Yippy!:2_thumbs_up_-_anima Let's not overdo it right now! Funny, another Denny. He can't be so bad. Good luck. Us station wagon members sent a telepathic message to Denny, along with Tedy's invitation to go for a boat ride.
If your hubby hasn't already had 'a talk' with the shop owner, I would suggest that as well, to clear the air. No yelling, just a 'clear the air' understanding of the expectations between the customer and the shop owner. You might even want to commit something to paper. I wouldn't necessarily expect the wagon to be worked on every day, but I would expect slow, steady progress on the agreed-upon work.
You guys are awesome, thanks for all the support and suggestions. Denny, is really a good guy. Your right KK we didn't get anything on paper it was all verbal and I know that sounds nutty but when your in a teeny tiny town that is pretty much how things are done. However that said, if Fannie had not been put inside and had sat outdoors through that blizzard I believe I would have got hubby to bring her home. There would have been no yelling just an understanding that I wasn't happy with her sitting out in the elements for so long and that I need some kind of schedule to get the work done, not an unreasonable request. There is still a long way to go so we'll see how it goes...baby steps, that's what you guys told me when I first joined.
Like everyone has said...........you need to have a heart to heart with this guy. Be polite but firm in your words that if you knew the car was going to sit out, you would have waited till he had the space.
On almost every car I have restored, And its been several. The body shop experience has always been the problem. Body shops make fast good money repairing late model wrecks. Insurance company's checks keep them in business. Thats why at most body shops your pride and joy is either sitting outside or sitting in a corner some where covered in dust. Start going by on a weekly basis with a camera and take a dated photo of your car. If things go well, you'll have a record for your car's progress. If things go bad, you'll have a record for court.
This is exactly what hubby started doing. Just stopping by with a coffee, hanging around, chit chatting. Work has begun now so hopefully the momentum will continue. I now he doesn't want my big old wagon taking up his shop space for to long. Thanks.
This is pretty much exactly what happened to me with my paint guy. My 81 Safari was the third car I had taken to him, and he had always done great work for fantastic prices. I bought the car in mid-December, and took it to his shop even before I had plates for it. He told me he planned to have it done before the new year. Well, even with weekly visits to "check up on progress" I kept getting "your car is next on the docket" Long story short, I got it in the middle of May, and it was a total rush job. The worst thing about this whole thing is that now I know I can't rely on him, and have to find a new paint guy!:banghead3:
