Nice unmolested survivor. And you don't see many Falcon wagons of that year.

    oh baby baby

I'd rather have the Falcon, myself. Chebbies are okay, but not my style. And, yes, the numbers on wagons and Rancheros got appreciably smaller as Falcon wound down to it's end. Well, here in America, anyway. Australia kept making Falcons. So did South American Ford.

Has the 'deluxe' grade trim too, which is nice (side moldings, chrome window frames, etc.) Says it has a 289. In '68, wouldn't it have been a 302?

Very early production 68 Fords had the 289, they used up what was on the shelf first before the 302 became the standard small block. I"ve seen it before and owned a early 68 Cougar that came factory with the 289......and or this owner does not know what he has.

It is a nice clean looking wagon, wish there were more pics, interior etc.

As I'd understood it to be. Officially, the 302 was supposed to be a 1969 model year upgrade. Ford slowed then stopped production on all 289's at different times.(at one time, and into the 68 model year, there were FIVE 289's that could be bought. 160, 185, 210, 235 and 271 bhp models. Part way thru 68 they were down to the 160 and 235 versions. Anything Shelby or GT ended up with a 302 in the later part of 68. The 289's were carried on into 69 for Falcons. You could get 69 Falcons with 302's, however, if you ordered them up special.(trivial pursuit point of interest, only five 69 Falcon Rancheros came with 302's and four speed manuals.:yup:) Ford did this to avoid something that happened with the first year of Mustang. Iacocca wanted all Mustangs to come with their own engines. Zippier ones than in Falcons. 200 cid inline 6's, instead of the 175's in Falcons. And 289's instead of 260's. The 200's and 289's didn't show up in time for the first 500 Mustangs to go off the assembly line and to the showrooms. So, those 500 cars went to the dealers with Falcon drivetrains in them. The dealers were not supposed to sell them---but did anyway. If any Mustangs actually qualify for the title 64 1/2. It's these Mustangs with Falcon drivetrains. If you find one, get it and keep it. and keep it that way. it's worth more with the Falcon drivetrain in it.

It's in the southwest now? Hmmmm.

Yup, had an early 68 Mustang, wife bought it new while I was away on a world tour with the Federal Gov't, and it had a 289.

Mom had a 68 Falcon wagon in white up until I was about 5 or 6. It had been my grandmother's car originally and to this day it was one of her favorites. This was the only car to date in the family that was ever given a name, "Old Bess". She was a member of the family from about 1970-1986ish. Unfortunately my parents weren't wagon people, but my grandparents 85 Town & Country and my great uncle's 91 Colony Park did it for me.

That's a nice fairly rare wagon for the money.
