Hello All, So for the past ten years or so I have wanted to get an old school station wagon. I tried to convince my wife that it would be a great car for her and the three kids but she did not seem to share my vision. She went for the newer reliable mini van. There she goes being responsible again. Well about six months ago my triplet brother got himself a 1971 country squire and we love it. It is a driver and man is it nice in that roomy interior. So I have been watching adds for months now just to see what is out there and this 1973 Gran Torino Wagon showed up. I just love the color and style of this Torino and it looked well preserved and ready to go. I do not need a project right now. I Wanted it bad enough that I traded my 2008 F350 Lariat diesel extended cab in on a less expensive truck and bought the wagon. As far as I know it was a one owner car mostly garage kept and driven occasionally to keep things working. It was sold about three months ago to the gentleman I bought it from. He did a little rear quarter repair while he had it and drove at a little before deciding he wanted to go another direction and re-listed the wagon. Good for me! Here are some Pics.
Very nice and you made some good but tough decisions to get it. They are still makin late model Ford trucks.
Nice wagon. Appears to be in great shape for a northeast vehicle. About your username, do you race hare scrambles?
Congratulations on the wagon. Don't be too surprised if the wagon doesn't become your daily driver, though. Those cars drive like an absolute dream! If you do want to use it regularly, do put a dual 2 1/4 exhaust on it. It is a simple bolt on, so does not make a permanent change to the car, but it wakes the engine up nicely. You will likely see a gain of about 4 or 5 mpg on the highway, and a good solid 20 to 25 horsepower difference compared to the stock singe 2 inch.
Yes I do race Hare scrambles, mainly just for fun. Been riding for almost 20+ years. Riding dirt bike is one of my passions though. Looking forward to showing up to a race with the Torino Wagon and my bike in tow. BTW my Bike is a 09 Husqvarna TE450. Thanks for the reply!
Thank you MikeT. I do plan on driving it quite a bit. Thankfully I still have other options if the roads are nasty though. I actually hope to pull my 26 foot camper with it some. It came with a factory tow package but the hitch is gone. It does have air shocks in the back though which I will need to check out. I would like to learn more about the dual exhaust idea. She does need to be un-choked a bit. Is there a better thread to learn about the exhaust options?
Only year I like better is the 1972 Gran Torino. Yours is super nice. We pulled a 21' or so RV with our 72 Gran Torino. Pulled fairly nice.
