    I think that Ford/Mercury started on the downhill path when they got away from their traditional model names. Why get rid of Falcon or Galaxie and Fairlane?

    Why did Mercury get rid of Comet, Monterey and Meteor? It simply doesn't make sense.

    The 1977/1982 Cougar station wagon was a no-go from the get-go. If it was a Meteor Wagon that would have made more sense. Or at least a Comet. How come we have a Grand Marquis insteat of a Monterey?

    Am I just to old?

    I would like to see Mercury sell some of Ford's European/Aussie models this side of the pond. Car like the Mondeo and Aussie RWD models is what we are lacking and I think they would sell well, especially if they were lower priced than Euro cars we have here.

    I agree.The new names suck.how about these?;
    Taurus-call it a Galaxie,make the better one a Galaxie 500.Add "XL" to the wagon(Taurus x)version.Leave the mercury a Montego.Make the better one an S-55
    Fusion-call them the following
    4cyl-Torino
    v6-Torino 500
    sportier v6-Torino GT
    Change the Milan to;
    4cyl-Comet
    v6-Comet S-22 or Caliente
    sportier v6-Comet GT or Cyclone
    sounds better to me(y)

    I think the Taurus name is still fresh in people's mind, that is why they brought it back. Im quite sure that there will be also a SHO model in the lineup as well. If the SHO packs a real punch, im sure it will be a winner.

    Comet and Meteor are names linked to the outdated era of early space flight. Cool cars, though.
    Taurus and Mondeo are names fitting into international markets. However, vehicle charachter was sacraficed, as the cost of internationalization :(

    If they hadn't dropped all the good names, they wouldn't be able to recycle them now.

    Actually, when a company introduces a car that is nothing like its predecessors I Prefer that they give it a new name rather than sully the old one.

    I, for one, can live without seeing a rebadged tin can from Korea sold at Ford dealers as the "NEW, Improved Colony Park Longroof sport wagon. "

    Ford started on the slippery slope when the forgot that there is supposed to be a real benefit to paying more for the Mercury brand. When I bought the 89, the base price of the Grand Marquis was higher than the Crown Victoria, but with the way I equipped it, the final price was LOWER on the Mercury. Strange. When it comes to the cars, though, the new cars suck! The 'big' cars are based on Volvo platforms, and like any Volvo I have ever driven, front leg room is not so great. Not enough wheel base. In the new Taurus, they raised the seat to give the illusion of leg room. Trouble is, that seating position is going to be terrible for long drives. Feel that low compared to the rest of the body,and knees bent that way, and deep vein thrombosis is going to become more prevalent. Not thanks. I had always been quite happy with the leg room of the Thunderbirds and Crown Victorias/Grand Marquis sedans I had. Then I got Bertha, the 78. There is no replacement for displacement and that goes for engine size as well as gross tonnage, I guess.

    REV, REV!! The Challenger is a 2 door, and it is BIGGER than the old, 69 Charger! It is the CHARGER they made a 4 door, and it is even bigger! The Challenger is only about 6 inches shorter than the 78 Thunderbird, but is taller and wider. The Charger is as long as that 78 'Bird, if not slightly longer, and is as wide and tall as the Charger. It also weighs very nearly as much as Bertha, the 78 Grand Marquis! Where is this weight coming from? Oh, and that is without a spare tire, which is only an option on the 6 cylinder models, and not available at all with the V-8.

    ROTFLMAO!

    And I would pay to attend the event. Given the clowns running these car companies you may get the opportunity. :)

    Get someone to vid all the slapstick and I promiss I'll post it everywhere possible :clap:
    Ford is Hell-bent on not only getting more worldwide sales than their ancient rival GM. Like most carmakers, they also compromized their product design to compete in world markets.
    Nowadays, over here in Europe, it's difficult to distinguish between modest- to low-priced brands.
    On a positive note, though, it's not so bad to buy a Lincoln equipped with an Aston Martin engine or a Vauxhall equipped with a Corvette engine
