Dear aficionados of the station wagon,

Saturday was the 8th Orinda Classic Car show. For the second year in a row, the only station wagon on display out of ~200 cars was . . . my trusty 1965 Buick special.

    There was a minority of adoring wagon fans . . . . .:162:

But there were lots of parents close to half my age taking the little kiddies to see the humongous land yacht, when my wagon is a mid-size and there are cars and SUVs today that are still bigger. :rant2:

What's an honest "mature" station wagon gotta do to get a little respect!!

As you can see just above the passenger side fender, there was also on display the assertive Buick big-block engine that will be installed this fall:

That will certainly get some attention, but it already was noticed for the wrong reasons. I'm not trying to make a racer out of her, but a super-capable and thrifty tow vehicle. She ain't no run-of-the-mill muscle car!!

Sure is hard to get a station wagon to be respected . . . . for what they are!! :scratchchin:

    Oh well!!

    Cheers, Edouard :beerchug:

That car is GORGEOUS, and the engine looks outstanding too!

One of my favorite things about having a wagon is that you don't see them at every car show!

    NICE car!

Very nice wagon. The Buicks were to me one of the midsize wagons back in the day. Yours is very cool and will run with the big dogs with that new motor.

I have no clever comments to insert. That is a beautiful wagon and the engine will make it even better.

Thats pretty cool! I have always been a wagon fan. Been real hard not to stop and look at a 65 Buick wagon on my local CL. Been there for months.
I'd pass up a Camaro anyday to scope out your wagon.

What Andy said... I get it ALL the time... why?, how come?, why?

Yours is drop dead stunning, and you have history with it, real history.

I guess I've allways been a car person, for the fact I've never really been brand, make, or model matters. I like cars and I've allways been the guy who will walk past a everybody has done one to admire a car for it's condition, un-molested state, rarity, yad yada even if it's a plian jane sedan, Wagons though....

    Thanks for the encouragement . . .

Dear Station wagon lovers out there,

Thanks for the words of encouragement!! (y)

Indeed, I'm doing this work for me, not to please the crowd. When all this work is done, she will be certainly one very pleasant ride!!

I just worked out exchanging the Vintage Air condenser. I had bought the GTO Sure Fit kit and unfortunately they sent it with the GTO condenser. The right size for a Buick is 2 inches smaller.

So closing in on the time when I can actually drive my trusty wagon once more!! :yahoo:

    Stay tuned!!

    Cheers, Edouard :beerchug:

buck up bro. we (the late model B Body crowd) get almost no respect. in fact we had 2 of our local club members get denied entry to a car show (they said "those arent classics") despite the fact that one of them has a classic plate on his wagon. at least we have a little more street cred than the fox body wagons...great cars...but people have no respect.

Okay you Rodney Dangerfield types, just because you get no repsect does not mean your station wagons are not nice. Suck up and enjoy them.
My everyday driver is a red Dodge truck. Believe me, I'd rather be driving a green Buick or Chevy wagon. Do you have any idea how many red Dodges there are in this small town ?:slap:
