I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place - this is his wife Deb. Last Saturday I was out and about with my sister and nephews who are visiting for a week. I got home around 3 p.m. and all he said was "take me to the hospital". He didn't want to ruin our fun day and didn't want to call an ambulance. He was having chest pains, was cold and clammy and a horrible grey colour. So, I drove him to the hospital, thinking he was having a heart attack. Oh ya - I lectured him the whole 15 minute ride about how we have this modern day emergency number called 9-1-1 or he could have called my cell phone. He said he didn't want to ruin our fun. I dropped him off at the door to the ER and parked the car. When I went into the hospital he was sitting in a chair, waiting to be registered. I asked him if he told them he was having chest pains and he said "No". (my blood pressure increased) So - I told a nurse and they rushed him in. After many hours in emerg and many tests, it was determined that he has acute pancreatitis. I should add that one of the heart technicians let ME rip two of the sticky monitors off his hairy legs because he didn't call 9-1-1. He is getting better and we are hoping that he will be let out either today or tomorrow (conveniently my family is leaving tomorrow). He was excited because he was permitted to eat chicken "mush" last night and not just broth and jello. lol! He has to strictly modify his diet - no fatty food, no alcohol. Soon he'll have to change his handle to "Skinny Tedy" lol!
OMG Deb thanks for letting us know he's like that stupid brother you'd like to kick in the A$$ from time to time but then he does something sweet or funny and then he's back in our good graces again. What a scare for you!!! The idiot... hmmm fun shopping or dead husband...idiot! Give Tedy(fat or skinny) a hug and a kick for me. Hope he has a speedy recovery so he can get back on here with us...although it is nice to hear from the brains in the family. Bet pulling those sticky tabs of was great! Take care Deb.
Thank you for posting Deb, we all love Tedy and care about him greatly. This exact same scenario played out for me in 2007, I spent 2 days in intensive care and 3 days in recovery, this is by no means a death sentence and much more of a wake up call. I am however diabetic now, but for me the lifestyle change has improved my health dramatically. By diet and excercise and healthy living I lost 101 lbs in 2 1/2 years and control my diabetes with little insulin. You give up many yummy things and I miss whiskey some days but in the end he will be around longer and feel much better.
Fannie said EVERYTHING I would like to say except she said it much better! I have talked to Tedy in PM's at times and scolded him in the past for delaying doc visits and for his eating habits, etc. Gotta love the guy, though. Get well SOON, Tedy! And...this time...listen to the docs and your wife. Don't make me come over there! Luv ya, pal.
Geez, Deb, Teddy did all the things a guy is supposed to do and some weenies don't First off, thank you for letting us know. This getting older crap is, well, crap for sure. Silly bugger though, he ought to know that he'd of been in even bigger trouble if you'd come home and found him in rougher shape than he was, he'd of been in the hospital a lot longer with all those bruises and broken bones he would have sustained as you dragged him out to the van and off to the hospital. I suspect if you tell him just how disappointed and saddened his pups were he will take your "coaching" more to heart. Tell the old guy to hurry up and get better, we wondered where his posts were. We need him back. And to you, thanks for keeping us updated and good luck keeping him slowed down until he heals. That in itself should be a very interesting process. My wife uses the threat of duct tape and it works. If he thinks having those little stickies ripped off hairy legs is uncomfortable, duct tape on legs, arms and beard/mustache not only hurts like crazy when ripped off, it also leaves a sticky mess to deal with. Take care,
Thanks for the heads up, Deb, us wagon guys and gals appreciate it. Tedy sounds like so many guys who insist on not being fussed over or being a trouble to others. Tell Tedy that now it's his turn for a while to be fussed over, allowing those he loves to be a blessing to him. We're praying for 'ya Tedy, Get well soon! Marshall
I'm randomly picking Krash's comment. Altho fannie said it best. Us old farts are stuborn fools. Get well soon and be glad you have a wife and family who cares. If and when something happens to me there is no one to forward information. My wife knows nothing about computers and wants to keep it that way. Therefore I can't get sick! Get well soon Tedy. Thanks Deb.
Good to know that it wasn't a heart attach, and that he will be coming home soon. I would also like to say to you, the same thing that you said to him. Why didn't you call the ambulance. The call for the ambulance would have gotten him into the emergency room faster, since he would have already been evaluated by the EMT's. If this had been a heart attach, they would have the necessary medications on board to treat him. EMT's today, can do a lot of life saving techniques that used to be done only in a hospital setting. This is why more people are surviving heart attacks. In that 15 minute drive to the hospital, he was not being treated, and had this been a true heart attack, the results might not be the same. Please call 911. and leave the drive / treatment to those that are trained for these emergencies.. Junk... PS..... If you haven't already guessed, I am a retired EMT
This is some great advice. We are more than an hour from a hospital. Many things can happen in that time, or even 15 minutes. Geeze, PB....I used to have a lot of respect for you. Sometimes I even agree with you foxy. Besides us Floridinanians have to stick together. Get well Fat Tedy.
