Well, I found this site by accident. I have an 81 Eagle wagon and have decided to look for a little newer wagon with an auto and A/C since mine has neither of these. I've narrowed it down to a few choices but the 94+ Caprices are on top of that list. If my wife knew I joined another car forum, I think she's flip her lid. Here's a pic of the Eagle on Pike's Peak http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/svoman2300/PikesPeak6-8-06008.jpg Fun in the snow http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/svoman2300/Blizzard06011.jpg And a pic of my other car and the source of my username. 1984 Mustang SVO with a 2.3L turbo. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/svoman2300/9-11-07PokerRun049.jpg
I personally think that the Eagle was one of the most overlooked AMC products....but then...i'm a fan of the turbo 2300 too..got one in my 58 Anglia maybe were both just sick
Are you over at Turboford.net too? Yup, 258 with a whopping 110hp. But 200 lb torque. I've considered doing and engine swap in the Eagle (still am) but when I consider the cost and the fact that the Caprice has 260 hp, has more room and would get a little better MPG, makes it a good choice for me. However, I would miss the Eagle come winter. It handles great in the snow.
You're close to Loveland, CO, aren't ya! I know Pike's Peak! Love that snow shot! That'll help our warm-feathered friends get a grip on what snow's all about. We get your Colorado Lows here during the winter. S'no good, when mixed with our -40F winters. Welcome to the S.W.A.M.P. (Station Wagons Are Man's Preference) site!
About 45 mintes south of Loveland. Farmont is on my list of choices too, if I could find one in good shape. However since it's a Fox body I don't think it would stay stock long. It would defiantely get Cobra brakes like I put on my Mustang.
Handles like a track star on snow and ice, with stock tires. Wide tires would be fine on the back, but you need the narrow ones on the front to cut through hard-packed, salted snow. Not like the AMC 4WD. Of course here in the flat land, we just have snow drifts to climb.
I'm still on the fence about keeping the Eagle. When I left for work this morning I saw it sitting in the driveway and had a warm fuzzy feeling. If I do keep it, it would have to have a solid axle swap up front (like this one) and a different engine.
Keep the Eagle there's not many around,I haven't seen one in NC in years and we plan on moving to Kansas so my wagon might go 4X4
