Chrome on the vents was pretty well worn so I did the metallic silver Sharpie trick. I did it about twenty years ago to an old Caddie but used Testor's silver model paint with a brush. Don't think the pens even existed then. Would have done it the same way this time but I saw the pen method described here and figured I'd give it a shot. The one on the left has had the treatment, the one on the right hasn't. Even did the ridges on the ON/OFF wheel. I can't recall what poster here mentioned the Sharpie method, but they were thanking someone else for the tip. So, a big thank you to the both of you and the Station Wagon Forums in general. :2_thumbs_up_-_anima

    Looks GREAT!

Testors makes marking pens so kids can painting models with out the open container and having to clean brushes. It is a little more durable than the Sharpy ink. You might look into that at your local hobby shop.

Did I mention it looks GREAT!(y)

Wow...what a difference! That looks great, Mike!:thumbs2: If that Sharpie you are using is the permanent type...I wouldn't worry about that stuff coming off any time soon. I've used them on the woody sides of wagons...drawing in woodgrain, etc. You couldn't tell, or even find the spots, from 2 feet away and it lasted forever.:yup:

    Mark,
Best to get it fixed quickly, before it gets any worse.

Are we talking about the Buick?

Well, I blew a hole in my radiator again. Dumped in "barrsleak" (sp?) two weeks ago and no leaks with the cap slightly loose. Well, I got excited that it was working so I tightened down the cap for a quick drive to the PO and ... a huge green puddle formed under it when I came out. Bummer.
Back to the loose cap I guess, till I can pony up the $400 for a new radiator.

But, I like my new valve covers!

Sorry to hear about the cancer Mark.

400 bucks for a radiator? Look around. Look up what the size & rows are in yours and look around. I have never paid that much for a radiator. I remember one time on my Mark VII....the radiator was exactly the same as the Mustang. The Lincoln radiator listed at exactly twice the price of the Mustang radiator. Same radiator! Same part number!

Here in Salem, from a radiator shop, they quoted me $500. On Ebay I found one for $351 but shipping was an additional fee. I just rounded up to four.

Radiators for later models are often the same as cheaper vehicles of the same brand. Just cross reference the sizes.
However your older radiator probably only fits a few years and models. Still, do some checking because prices vary drastically from place to place.
Without replacing with a modern radiator that ruins the original look, you may have to bite the bullet and get an original replacement.
As nice as your wagon engine compartment looks that's what I would do.
Seems like the radiator is the most trouble of any older vehicle. Doing it right saves a lot of headaches.
On my 55 Chevy I have a 76 Monte Carlo size radiator. But it is hidden behid stainless and I changed it many years ago. Recently to a $99 aluminum replacement.
What we've done to our wagon today? Put the license sticker on the rear tag and changed the Edelbrock full of water and dirt to a Holley 750.
