Large GM tailgate rubber Amen to Buffalo's post Ther has to be a need for these things If anyone finds them please share Jerry
Not sure which part you're looking for....... Belt outer sealing strip: Part # 20225797 Belt inner sealing strip: Part # 1718441 There's also these, but they wern't shown in my db diagram... Weatherstrip @ belt, RT: Part # 20004891 Weatherstrip @ belt, LT: Part # 20004892
GM Part number # 20225797 should get you started. I thought I could find anything on the internet but this has defeated me (thus far). Consider me for two (Pontiac Safari + Chevrolet Caprice) if you find any!!
In thinking about this problem of finding weatherstripping for wagons, and it seems that it IS a major problem, how about showing a cross section of the rubber strips in question from each car along with a description of the material? I don't know if you guys can afford to destroy a small part of what you have for a pic, but, if a straight on cross section pic were posted in these searching threads with dimensions noted, those members with reasonable searching skills may be able to find something that would work as a replacement. It seems to me that a certain configuration may have been manufactured for other uses as well as for the wagons in question. While I know that this is a serious problem I find it hard to believe that there isn't SOME piece out there that could be used as a substitute. Or, there may be THAT exact configuration that is used in other applications. It would be a good thing to know what these pieces look like in case someone may stumble onto something and remember your pictorial post. Just a thought.
Mine is off the car at the moment so I can take some pics later, but... I think the problem is that the weatherstripping isn't just a straight piece of anything, it goes up at the edges, essentially a moulded moulding if you will (pictures will show this better than my words I think!). Also, the 'flocking' inside is the expensive bit (I am told). I guess the implications of this is that each piece has to be made individually rather than in a long line which just needs to be cut... I'll try and get some pictures up later.
ah! I see, buff. That makes the problem solvable by only the correct part number, it would seem. Still....IF there are NONE of these available....I wonder if a straight piece would work if glued in there? I can't visualize the problem without seeing it but your description is a good one and I do have a better understanding of the complexity now.
Large GM tailgate Yes the part is 20225797 I haven't taken mine apart because it is still good except for some checking along the upper edge Jerry
dang it,,i,m sorry for taking so long to reply,,,,i looked and cannot find the number of the guy i spoke to regarding the weatherstripping,,,he is in wa state,,,,,and was very certain he could make the peices in question ,,,,i can say beyond a doubt his integrity on it but yet the thousand dollar question is his number,,,,any one here remember him from the portland swap meet ?????
Been awhile since I've checked this thread. Haven't been to any large swap meets lately. But those places always have vendors who have large spools of many types of universal rubber mouldings. Maybe not exact or original but I would think something that would work would be available from someone like that. I know that the rubber reproducers don't fool with anything that doesn't have a large demand. Also, still not much help, but I've gotten tubes of liquid rubber that is great for small gouges and cracks. It goes on shiney but dries dull and looks decent. Look at the parts stores and big box stores. Don't recognise---Ray and Pam Kinsey. May have met but the names are not familiar.
