No kidding. I have a copy of every picture and I find myself just staring at all of them in some kind of hushed silence... It is truly one of the most beautiful and yet sad places I have ever seen. I wish I owned that property.

I hope someday we hear the story about this place. It really is interesting. I realize there could be similar places right near any of us, especially here in the NW Florida boonies. Never know what lurks in these woods and swamps besides spiders, gators, snakes, and rednecks.
It's them thar rednecks that skeer me!:disagree:

My Dad used to make Grapevine baskets and one time when we where out in the Missouri back woods harvesting vines we found a tree that had grown through a Model T. Wish we had a camera.

Near Peoria, Illinois, along a narrow two lane highway, a Model A 1-ton truck was sitting in a yard. It was easy to see from the road. A few other old cars and trucks were also there. The Model A truck had a small tree growing up next to the little Model A engine. The hood was either up or off.

As the years passed the tree grew fairly large shoving the engine to one side. I have no idea what happened to that truck, or tree. Again, we didn't take many pictures back then.

Spring Lake State Park south of Peoria. 1934 Chevy chassis on wheels deep in the woods. Near a forgotten old cemetary. There were several good sized trees growing up within the frame and around the engine and tranny. I had a 1933 so borrowed some parts from it.

Remember another tree and Model T in a junk yard along the Mississippi River in Quincy, Illinois. Birds, seeds, and trees didn't care where they did their thing.

My dad believed that the Model T we saw was probably there since it was fairly new judging from how big the tree was. The last time we went past there a strip mall was in it's place. Damn shame if you ask me. I think that something like that should be kept as it is and protected. But that is just me... After hearing about those that you saw I am curious to know just how many places there are where a tree has grown through an automobile. It would be both beautiful, scary, and humbling...

That was only a small sample of the trees growing in cars that I've seen. Most were in old junk yards. Others along back country roads. Just imagine those way back off the roads, in the woods, and other places.

What always amazed me was why didn't the owners just pull the trees up or cut them down while small? Especially in those public junk yards and back yards.:49:

I hardly believe we will see this now days. Nothing remains in one place long enough to grow trees or moss, for that matter!

You can find Polaroid cameras but you can't find disposible cameras at junks stores. Nothing now was meant to last... Not even people. :rofl2:

:camera:We have a bunch of different types of Polaroid cameras from the early fold out type to black and white and colored ones. I don't think you can find the film anymore and it was already expensive.
As for not finding used disposable cameras--DUH? They were disposable and apparently disposed !
People last twice as long on average than they used to!

Still colliating data but this is what I have so far. There are a few pictures where individual power lines are present running through the trees. That is a line for one family dwelling.
There is also a river of small size in the background of one pic.
I feel that a tributary of this size makes it big enough to be on a map.

The area I am looking in is here.

When we add all the streams and rivers about that size during the winter months (Flooded areas), that narrows it down to the headwaters of a few rivers and streams.

So I divided it up into what I call search areas.
    1. Nehalem
    2. Nestucca
    3. Luckiamute
    4. Siuslaw
    5. Smith
    6. Umpqua

Of course each river has it's streams and tributaries that feed them and the body of water in the above pic could be as yet unknown.

Area #1 has two towns to start from Mist and Vernonia off OR47. This area is my second choice.
Area #2 has no towns or highways near but it flows under Highway 101. This area I stayed in while in the Boy Scouts 1968 to 1971. The feel and look is perfect and becomes my primary target.
Area #3 Seletz to Valsetz is an easy drive and follows the river. This is an easy search... just drive and dart into long driveways now and then as long as the ferns and trees look about right.
Area #4 Follows the road right around Swisshome. Easy search.
Area #5 Both forks (Smith and Umpqua) follow hwy 38 and 138 so that too is an easy search and a nice easy drive. I pick this for my third search area.

Better to wait for spring and less wet.... let me know when you guys are flying in and I will meet you at PDX. :bouncy:

That little stream seems to be moving at a pretty good rate. Heard rumors they have since been crushed. That would be another sad event.

Flying in? We'd come by wagon train just like our fore-fathers and fourorfivemothers did!

I don't know how it works, but if a picture is taken with a camera phone, there is a way to take the GPS coordinates off of the picture when it is sent or posted. Anyone know how this works?

As for trees growing up inside a car, I had one like that on the property that I just removed last year. I left an old convertible that was badly rotted out back, and an oak tree started up in the middle of it, since the floors were rotted. Cut the tree, and had the car towed out to the scrap yard. Wasn't anything left on it of value.
