Hi Everybody - just logging in for the first time. I've owned and loved wagons all my life. My current ride is a full custom '64 Impala wagon which started out 20 years ago towing my boat! It's now been through several restorations and I will post some pictures shortly.
thanks for the welcome Hi - well, Slidell isn't that far away but Nova Scotia is a haul. Well post some pictures as soon as the car is finished in about 30 days.
------------When did North Ft. Meyers move to Nova Scotia? We're up the road a piece from Ft Meyers. Send some wagon pictures our way. Also welcome to the station wagon forum.---Now I get it. You were referring to fannie's memo! Welcome back to the states 400 after I moved you!
64 wagon I guess I should clarify. The car has been in restoration for 5 long years. Got it out, did some mechanical tweaking and then back to the restoration shop for final interior tweaks and other adjustments. There is an enormous car show here in SW Florida on Dec. 3rd; over 1,000 cars and my car is due. That's why I know it's only 30 days more. I'd love to write a "bio" of this ride some day and post it as the story is interesting. I know the history of the car from day 1. Where would I post something like that? I'm brand new to your forum and really don't know my way around yet.
64 wagon Hey Denny - that's a nice 55 you're running. What kind of power do you have in it? Maybe I'll meet you in the middle of the state with my wagon sometime
Thanks--------------Our 55 has been thru many engine/trannys. Right now it has a 305 with 200R4 and carburated. It is semi apart awaiting more updates in the accessory line. We miss going to Turkey Run, Spring Spectacular, and Old town Kississimmee. That would be a great place to meet in the middle! Have fun when you get yours done. Drive the wheels off it. That's what these things are built for.
The big problem I'm going to face is that I overdid it and overspent on it. I wound up with a damn show car and now I will have to get over that and just go drive it.
-----------We do some silly things with cars. I first bought the 55 wagon with a brand new red paint job on it because it looked nice and I needed something to haul parts from swap meets and yard sales. It had a hot 350 and BW close ratio fourspeed with low stock rear end. Didn't like all the runs and dirt in the paint so decided to just clean it up a little. Ended up removing all chrome, paint, windows, etc. Even put chrome oil pan and dust cover on it plus other underhood goodies and rear end cover. Ended up changing almost everything on my parts hauler. Ripped out the nice bucket seats and black R&P interior and put in a custom one of my own. Almost afraid to haul parts in it for awhile. But we got over it. Now it just looks like a parts hauler again and we enjoy driving it! I do understand building a show car and spending a lot of money makes it too nice to drive. Show it until you tire of that then drive it. We even started giving away our trophys after the house and garage got too full. The best trophy of all is when you get compliments and thumbs up as you drive down the street!
You are just so right. I bought a stock 64 Impala wagon from the second owner over 20 years ago to go fishing with and for kicks. It was all stock with a 327-300 Powerglide and factor air. Kept it that way until it threw a rod and it wound up with a 400 SB in it instead. Drove it that way for many years until I started messing with it which, in hindsight, may not have been a good idea. Once you start taking cars apart, you look at every piece and make a decision and it invariably gets improved. Once you get past the "tipping point" you start rationalizing things by saying "well, I'm in this far, there's no point in skimping from here". That's when things get out of control. I'm going to let my wife and son lean on me to use it as a car and I hope they will prevail
