Well, I learned never to wash my truck. About 25% of the paint came off! You'd think a paint job would last a bit longer than 16 years. So, being semi-lazy I was thinking (no it didn't hurt). Instead of the fancy roller paint job that I'd lose interest in in about one day (I'm told that it takes a bit longer than a day to paint that way, right Stormin') that I'd spray it. I like the semi-gloss look. I figure I can do it in a few days. Clean off the wax, a light sanding with 400 grit, mask and spray. No wax, hose it off once in a while and easy touch up. I'm talking rattle cans. A couple of coats. Since it's a 92 Ranger it's relatively small. A couple of dozen cans. I could even get fancy and two tone it. It can't look worse. Thoughts?
Have a look on the Rolledon forum. Some guys have done the Spray Bomb technique with MASTERY! From Cleaning, through sanding, taping, even the twist of the wrist! http://rolledon.com/index.htm Check here too: http://rollyourcar.com/default.aspx There's no way to do a 100% roller job (door jambs, wheel wells, etc.) so the guys have to merge both. So all the prep is the same. Roller painting gives you thicker coats and more depth where you can't do a good Clear Coat finish (oven, etc.)
Somebody posted a nice Wine Maroon/Dark Gray wagon that really got my attention, but Ash wood on a Black wagon is more to my liking - its a toss-up.
Stormin' as usual you have given me a way to solve a problem on my wagon. And you're the man to do it. I'll get a picture and pm to you later to day and see what we can come up with for my dash.
Now that you've totally Hi-jacked my thread I've pretty much settled on a satin Navy blue for a majority of the body. A satin cream or gray for the roof and rocker panels. I'll do the bed shell to match the roof. I just seem to like the non-high gloss paints for some reason. Here's the truck with paint.
That will look Great. Navy Blue with satin cream is a nice color combo. Did you happen to join us at Rolled On ?
I also failed to mention that the truck will have 0 miles sometime next week. Good time for a repaint.
You guys in CA, sheesh, you're spoiled. Faded dusty paint. No red measles likes ours. How many times has it hit ZERO?
