I got on the site's free emailing list a couple years ago. Some neat tips, some whacky ones, but its seems that folks are getting more ingenious, inventing their own cheap workarounds to often expensive maintenance processes. Take this guy's wheel alignment trick - works for Front or Rear (4WD) vehicles. http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthread.php/front-end-alignment-so-easy-even-human-can-15693.html He's got a picture of his home-made Camber alignment rig here: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthread.php/tow-set-0-results-17893.html#post246696 This second thread talks about how ZERO alignment saves up to another 4% on fuel: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthread.php/tow-set-0-results-17893.html That's getting interesting - 4% by changing diodes in the Alternator and 4% with this alignment trick. Just whacked back inflation for 2 years, gained back 8% more wasted power and learned something. Good start for today! Now if I could meet the guy who invented Sex, to see what he's up to now!
Guy at the alignment shop told me that cars from the factory are aligned so that if you fall asleep at the wheel the car will drift to the right so as to not enter into oncoming traffic.
It was under the He and She File, but that's all muddled up now. Who would ever do that? Good logic for a semi-driver, but us urban day-trippers?
I don't know how true that is, but I'm 39 years old and have heard that same thing about "new cars being aligned to drift to the right" even when I was just a little kid.
