I had already painted the engine compartment when you posted the Onyx Green color info, and thought it was a little bright so I checked out your color and I've got to say I think it's right on the money! The only problem is Onyx Green is only available in single stage and I'm not a big fan of single stage metallic paint, it's hard to paint and you can't color sand and polish it like you can with base/clear. So I spent two hours at the paint store trying to get a good match, and I think they got it, it looks exactly the same. Today I painted the door jambs and the underside of the hood. I had already repainted the engine compartment, at least what I could get to, the firewall is still the brighter green because it was painted with the engine out, but not much of it shows anyway.

4 and 1/2..... That's how many hours I spent wet sanding this damn car with 600 grit sandpaper today. Add to that another couple of hours wiping it down to get it clean, and then another couple of hours masking off the door jambs and everything else I didn't want painted, and then about 3 hours of spraying color and clear.... That makes for one LONG day. As I write this it's midnight and I just got home from my buddy's shop, I went down there at around 10:30 this morning. But it is painted, Well the biggest part anyway, I'm going to go back tomorrow and paint the hood, header panel, rear bumper filler, and the side vents. It's getting there slowly but surely.

Single stage....That is exactly what the paint shop said the chip off the movie car was. And yep.....that is the only way it comes.

Long roof, eh? :D It looked real long, even on my Fairmont, especially when I was sanding. It's a bit of a let down though, after you get the arms and pecks all built up again, until you start buffing.

Bet you slept like a rock. ;)

Single stage acrylic enamel was real common 25 years ago, it was pretty much that or lacquer, and I'm guessing they didn't want to have to polish the cars, single stage, just shoot it and let it go. Today's paints are alot better though. Also, I never did find any woodgrain vinyl that looked right. I found some at JC Whitney that was priced right, but looks way too dark. What was it that you found?

Oh yeah! Extremely long roof! Did sleep good though, but now I've got to go back and work on it some more, I'm trying to make good use of my time off work, so I can get as much done as possible!

Let me do some research. I found a 3m wood grain that I thought looked good. And I thought the link was found here. I did go to a sign shop with the original wood grain off my wagon and they did match it. Theay also wanted $700 for a roll.......OUCH. I should have some time tonight to see if I can find it for ya.

Looks good Stormin', looks like you just need to finish putting it back together now. I'm thinking the woodgrain is a little dark for my car though. Got the rest of the car painted, and started working on the hood ornament.

Right. You're building a Lampooner. Yeah, you need the lighter color ranges (toasted oak, medium ash, etc.)

Well I brought my car back home, stopped by the carwash to wash all the bodywork dust and polishing compound off. Almost got the hood ornament done.
