I'm glad there's people out there like the Professional Car Society keeping other people honest.

    I like this comment

I won't be satisfied until I read the Warren Commission's findings on the ultimate fate of the hearse

I'm curious to see what sort of spin those BJ hucksters will put on this.

The aptly-named BJ has so many legal disclaimers in their ads that this will be a non-issue for them.

Having attended one of their auctions I can attest to the skeezey feeling you get from those guys. Having one of them put his arm on you attempting to coerce a bid compels you to bathe.

I was convinced it was a fake and then read the Society's thread yesterday and found I was right. I stated all this on the other thread. Good post, CE.:thumbs2: I didn't know that the Society would follow up to BJ but am VERY glad they did. In the past, I have seen other fakes go through there for big bucks and I agree with Ross's assessment. BJ protects itself well. In this case they simply said that the documents matched what the seller stated!?!? WTF??? How does THAT make it authentic??? There are also guys building cars out there that run them through BJ with phony histories. What I DON'T know is....are the bidders aware of the phonies? Are they (some of them) in on it? Surely, they are able to spot a phony. Or maybe they are simply complacent to own the car and continue the charade.

I still don't know what to believe, anything JFK related is so sketchy. I did have a chance to buy Jack Ruby's hat once, but had nowhere near the money.

You still don't know what to believe, CE??!? Read the whole previous thread on this subject including the link to the Professional Car Society. Read all of that link. Then re-read what you just posted. There is no way that car was just sitting somewhere for nearly 50 years and then some guy buys it. Finally....just look at the car. Closely. I know there aren't many pix but, trust me, you don't need many.

It's fortunate that all this went down before the ambulance was auctioned. Imagine the fallout if all this happened after the buyer bought his 'original, unrestored' JFK ambulance....

Seems to me that the real perpetrator here could be the guy from California who sold the vehicle to the current owner. Needs a '60 minutes' investigation to find out who knew what, and when.

    ------------------------------------
Also, you don't need to be an expert to take one look at the photos and tell it's certainly not 'origininal / unrestored'......

Misrepresentation of a vehicle seems to be almost a sport now for many people, and is IMHO perpetrated by various auction companies. There should be some onus on the auction houses to ensure that what they state at the time of the sale is the actual truth.

I'm no fan of the BJ style of promotion.

I'm very glad this one was found out before the auction frenzy that BJ was creating.

I agree.....should be some serious :rulez: for people who pull this kind of stunt on such a serious moment in our history.

Just look at the number of clone cars that are out there now.

There was a guy on the Canadian Poncho site that was going to buy a GTO until he ran the VIN w/ GM Canada and found out that the car was a extremely well constructed fake and was actually a LeMans.

Look at Paul Teutul Sr trying to sell his replica COPO car on ebay. Thirty grand for a wannabe clone? LOL! Hell, I wouldn't want just because it was his car.

This numbers matching craze that has hit the collector's market is astounding. Look, it has a time stamped numbers matching windshield wiper motor... Woohoo! Like who really gives a crap.

I would not be surprised to learn that Barrett-Jackson had something to do with this ambulance. The whole thing has always reeked of sleezeoid to me.

I have the BJ auction on TV right now. I can't believe how little some cars go for and how insanely high others go for. All in all, though, it appears the economy has taken its toll in this arena too. I like to go to BJ to look at the cars and then leave. They have tons of other cool car stuff for sale there too. Bottom line....I think they are basically crooks.
