Hello, all. I cut my teeth on a '63 Olds Delta 88 wagon. Would love to see pix of one if any of you have one to share. Nice to have found this community! Ben Allaway Des Moines, Iowa
to the wagon train, ben. Check out the Gallery and see if you can find what you want to see. Chances are there may be one or two there. Stick around and tell us more about yourself and if you are pursuing a wagon.
Welcome Neighbor. '63 Oldsmobiles were all good looking, well built cars. You might have cut your teeth on a Dynamic 88 tho, maybe? I'm thinking the Delta name was still a couple years off. It was the high end model of the Dynamic 88 in '65. Pictures to come, I'm certain...
Partly correct. The Delta name was first used by Oldsmobile in 1965 as you surmised. A full-size '63 Olds wagon would have been either a Dynamic 88 or a Super 88. Dynamic 88 wagons (called the "Fiesta") came in both two and three-seat versions, while the Super 88 version (also called "Fiesta") came only as a 2-seater. The Delta 88 was not, however, just a higher-end trim line or something like that of the Dynamic 88 series. It was its own series distinct from the Dynamic, and it was "above" the Dynamic in the model hierarchy. There was also a third "88" series available that year, the Jetstar 88, which was the bottom-of-the-line 88 that year (as it was for '64 and '66 as well).
We had the three-seat version, which we thought was the coolest thing on wheels, having a seat that faced backwards.
I'm not pursuing a wagon to purchase, but am enjoying seeing all the pictures of these gorgeous vehicles. I would love to build some model cars again, something I haven't done since junior high. I learned alot from building models, and I'm sure there must be some kits available for some wagons. What is the best source for those these days?
Welcome aboard Ben. I had a '63 Starfire 4-dr ht. Awesome car. The Great White Turkey... They've never ridden in it? Mine had all the toys, and oh so comfy.
Rat Fink... He started the printed T shirt business except he used real paint before screen printing came along in the 60's
