The 4500.00 is a marketing ploy to get you in the door.
You can get UP TO 4500 if you by a hybrid and mail in for the tax credit.
The real deal is in this link..
    http://www.retireyourride.ca/home/rewards.aspx
    and this link
    http://www.greenhybrid.com/discuss/f49/tax-rebate-hybrids-ontario-canada-11763/

In short, the cars do go to the wreckers and cannot be resold.
My buddy tried to buy a nice truck that was parked in the cash for clunkers pile, but the dealer is not allowed to resell under the program.
What you get for the clunker (maximum 300.00),add the factory rebates, and government tax credit, you may be lucky to get a total of 4500.00--but not hard cash.it is all on paper.

    Actually,I came across this.
It is against the law to advertise "cash for clunkers" in Ontario..

"OMVIC's marketing standards govern advertisements for both new and used vehicles in Ontario and level the playing field for consumers and dealers," explains OMVIC spokesperson Brenda McIntyre. "The purpose of the standards is to ensure advertisements are free of false statements, empty promises and deceptive representations of products or services. Among other things, advertising a "Cash for Clunkers" program violates Section 3.12.1 of the Standards which states advertisements do not offer a minimum trade in allowance."

Everyone on this forum should send that dealer a letter tell him what an ass he is for doing that to a nice old car. Better yet.....send them to the local newspaper and TV stations. Although, if he advertises with them they wouldn't run the story anyway.
I really, really hate seeing stuff like this. Especially from dealers. If I lived in that town, I would have to do my best to bad mouth this stupid idea. Someone should steal that wagon some night. He obviously doesn't care about it anyway.

    Cash for Clunkers=colossal failure.
Designed to get clunkers (ie gas hogs) off the road and make the world a happier, hippier place.
From what I heard the vehicle that sold the most here in the US with the CFC deal was the FORD F-Series.
People brought in their tired work horse, got more than what it was worth as a "regular" trade in and bought a brand new Super Duty or F-150.
I have been in the market for a late 90's F-350 crew cab in the $5000 range. A year ago they were plentiful. Now, thanks to the genius CFC deal they are scarce.
Our local Ford dealer had a industrial job site dumpster with a mid 90's Explorer sticking out of it.
I just sold my 94 Explorer last month for $1800.
When it first started the local chivy dealer had an entire row of CFC trade ins on their front line, real proud of em it seemed. They had some nice rigs out there. I was actually looking at a very straight/clean 86 Bronco. Full-size, XLT, had good tires, fuel injected 302.
    Not for sale.
Then the Gov started backing out of their promise to pay out.
They (said chivy dealership) had a whole slew of rigs they took in on the CFC deal that the GOV said didn't "fit the criteria" they ended up trying to sell the junk for anything they could get.
    What a mess.

They did the same thing here as well to a 92 Caprice sedan at a local Chevy dealer.... seems they find it amusing. I remember when these cars set on this very lot (even that same spot!!) when brand new!! I vividly remember one of those cars setting there when it was new in the early 1990s... who knows, maybe the same car?

fans of these cars and myself were very cross indeed....
