My 1978 Ford LTD Country Sedan station wagon was a special order car. According to the gentleman's son, his dad, who ordered it new, did not like power windows, power door locks or cruise control. But he did want all the other options such as the roof rack, deluxe wheel covers, deluxe interior, power seats, deluxe trim package, 10 passenger capability and the towing package. Not long after he passed away, the car was stored at a nephews home until the gentleman's son put it on ebay for sale in August of 2005. The paperwork I found in the glove box allowed me to trace down the original dealer that he purchased it through in Hopewell, VA. Since it was never titled in his sons name, I am actually the 2nd owner. The gentleman's son gave me the phone number of the mechanic that always worked on the car when he took it in for service or repairs at the dealership in Hopewell, VA. That same mechanic started his own repair shop and continued to service the car while the original owner was alive. No major work has ever been done on the car. Except for wear items such as brakes, tires and exhaust, the car is completely original. When I purchased it off ebay, I had intended to restore it, but I have since decided to leave it in its original condition and show it as an unrestored original.
The photos that you see here are taken when I have yet to detail the wagon and put the correct tires on it. Once I get the roof rack back on and new tires and detail the car I will add new pictures. Also, not long after I posted this, documentation found in the glove compartment of state inspections confirmed that the car had not 174,000 on it but 74,000. Since I never planned on selling it I was not worried about the son putting the incorrect mileage on the title. I always wondered how a car in that great of shape could have that many miles on it. Mystery solved!
