  • 'Sammy' is a 1972 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser originally out of Temecula, California, brought up to Upstate New York in 2004. The sun of Southern California had baked the car quite well, and it was then left outside, but not driven. Regardless the elements took a toll, but Sammy was rescued by us in August of 2006 and brought home on September 11, 2006. This car has been an ongoing story of memories, adventures, and constant evolution. Presently the car is equipped with a warmed over (original) Rocket 350 V-8, mild cam, headers, mandrel-bent 2.5-inch dual exhaust, Turbo 200-R4 mildly built up and featuring a 'lockup' 2200-stall converter, an Auburn limited slip fitted with 3.73 final drive. Polyurethane bushings front and rear, boxed control arms, Performance Friction carbon metallic disc brake pads in the larger plate 153 style, and 8-inch wide Wheel Vintique Oldsmobile Super Stock 1 rims with fat BF Goodrich T/A tires ensure Sammy can stop and handle as well as he takes off. Air conditioning makes the ride comfortable on hot, humid summer days on the way to cruises and shows. Future plans call for more cosmetics, seat upholstery replacement, and there is a 455 engine being built up by myself to place in the car. To note, everything mechanical save for setting up the final drive gears was done by myself at home, even the 200-R4 buildup. I hope when the forum sees how the car looked before, and how it has progressed will encourage them to keep up with seemingly daunting projects.
