Was your family station wagon like a member of your family? Do you have a favorite family photo in your family station wagon? Here is my family circa 1977 in the back of our '72 Dodge Monaco during a family ski trip in NH (Dad was behind the camera):

I'm the kid with his legs stretched out. Silly as it may sound, I concidered that car a member of the family (at least as much as the family dog), and when the car died in the mid 80s, I cried.
I was with my partents when they brought her brand new from the dealership when I was 4 years old (I still remember the 'new car smell'), and was there when they sold her for junk when I was 16. She was crushed into a cube.

I have not seen another Dodge Monaco like this since the 1980s- I assume they are very, very rare.

I always though the nose end with retractable headlightsd was a design heavily influenced by the Olds Toronado

Thats a very unique looking garage and carport combo there, and yet it looks just like a house with similar garage and carport combo that I know of in Falls Church, Virginia. Back in the 80's I would pass by the house every day, and peer in the carport at a pretty navy blue and white 56 Chevy Nomad that lived there. I remember that two cars could fit end to end under the long carport roof. But, I'm sure this isn't the same house.

Our Monaco seemed to have multiple shades of brown- I wonder how many colors were available?

The Monaco wagons of that vintage, had a two tone design in the woodgrain. On the sides the wood grain was above the body side molding, and continued up the rear pillars and along the roof just above the drip rail. So, if the wagon was painted bown, and you had the wood grain siding in it's two tone design, then your wagon would definitely have looked like it was multiple shades of brown. Too bad the wagon has so much road salt hiding the color and trim.

I grew up on a coastal town just north of Boston, so salt was everywhere- both in the air from the sea spray, as well as on the roads in the winters- as the roads were salted when it snowed...
My parents put this car to constant use, be it taking it to work, or taking us to school, or taking us on winter ski trips

The interior seemed to be black leather seats-They got very hot on summer days. I remember my parents were less than happy when I chewed holes in the seat before we even got the new car back from the dealership
