My wife's best friend Janna met us with a friend of hers. Her friend was driving a new white Lincoln suv...crossover...thing.. It looked like a chrome-plated Ford Edge.. ANYWAY I was in the Roady, had my wife up front, three kids in the middle row, and two in the 3rd row.

Janna and her friend were following us in the Lincoln, heading out hwy 620 around Lake Travis, and after driving a bit, they pulled up next to me at a red light. Janna, in the passenger seat of the Lincoln, motioned me to roll my window down. I did, and she says "do you always drive so slow??" She was smiling, and I knew she was kidding, but in truth I do tend to drive like a grandpa most of the time.

BUT....when the light changed I buried my right foot. The Roady reared up and roared forward. I could see the Lincoln next to me in my peripheral vision....well until the Roady shifted, at which point we were GONE. Hahahaha. The kids were laughing and shouting. We came up on the next light, and they pulled up next to me. The kids are in the back clapping and laughing and I leaned out and said "Hey you just got smoked by a station wagon!" ....and Misty just sat next to me shaking her head....

Fun stuff. And yes, I know it was just a V6 Lincoln SUV, but MAN that was a lot of fun! And I guess it's good to "blow the carbon out" now and then....

I don't know how you resist the temptation to do that at every green light!

My uncle tells me a story now and then about how he blew the doors of a new Mustang (late 70's, early 80's) with his 66 Caprice wagon.

Even tho both of mine were L05's they were fun and surprising to the other cars at the lights. My white 93 would run circles around my blue 92, my 93 stomped my cousins 2010 F150 5.4 Titan and after 4 back to back runs of getting embarrassed, he finally said damn that thing will move and that was with over 50 feet of posi traction loss each run and a slight traction loss at the 2nd gear shift. I never had a chance to line it up with a LT1 car, I would have liked to see how she would stand up.

If it was a 79 that wouldn't be hard to do, since they had a 302 carry over from the Cobra 2 with a whopping 134hp and a 1/4 mile in 17.0 seconds @ 84.8 mph, 0-60 in 8.3 seconds.

    The 80-81 GT had the PUKE 255cu 4.2L with a staggering 120hp(lowest powered V8 ever in a Mustang) and the 82 only had a 157hp 302.

Your 307 Caprice would run good against any one of them :rofl2:

I think you have one of my 307's beat. Has trouble exceeding 55 up a minor hill.
Heck, a talented kid on a rusty skateboard could outrun mine, I swear.

I understand the babying of the machine... but every once in a while it is great to blow out the cobwebs for sure... Especially when it comes to showing off how bad @$$ a wagon really is. Back when I had my 84 Merc Wagon [RIP] with the 3.8L V6 auto, it would take off like it was a mustang, even in its poor and neglected state. Surprised the hell out of a guy in a green sports car thingy. I always stop accelerating at the speed limit.

The LT1 in my 96 Roady sure is a HECK of a lot more fun than the 307 I had in my '89 Custom Cruiser! I loved the way the Cruiser looked but a kid on a Schwinn Pixie could out drag that car! AHahahahaha!

Hahahahaha! Just wish I could have kept the Olds! Slow or not it was a great car too!

I would like to have a 90 Bubble wagon but my wife doesn't care for them. She wants one like what I want most. 80s Fox or Panther body, especially a Mercury. I do have a particular appreciation for the 90s Buick and Chevy Roady Hearses that were made. I have heard that it was easy to get those beasts to do better on the ole gas tank than my piddly KIA Optima.

Goofy but true, I've gotten 25mpg in my '96 Roady wagon on trips. That 307 Olds in my Cruiser never got out of the teens!
