My windshield washers haven't worked since I got my '89 Ford Country Squire. At first I thought is was the pump. But after really listing for it I finally heard it trying to work, but still nothing coming out. Any advice on how to proceed to figure out the problem would be helpful. :)

Disconnect the little hoses and blow throw them. They get gummed up with dust and sometimes the windshield anti-freeze solutions have gummy deposits in the solution. Up here they make it for -30C, but we got down to -40C and mine froze up this winter.

I'm not familiar with your car's set up but usually, along with Normy's suggestion, there's a little piece that the hoses connect to...these should be cleaned out too. Frankly, since the pump is working on that '89, I would just replace the hoses and any fluid carrier parts.

On mine the pump worked but nothing got through. After checking the hoses all was clear but still nothing.

I found the pump impellar was broken. I took the pump out and glued the plastic impellar back together and it's been working great.(y)

I finally tried to replace the hose. It didn't work out so well. Washer fluid was spilling out and the universal replacement hose I bought was too small to fit over the nozzle. I'm about ready to give up and take it to a mechanic. :slap:

Just in case anyone happens to be interested, I resolved this issue about a month or so ago. My mechanic cut my hose about in the middle and had me try it to test the pressure and it worked fine from there. So, that meant that the either the hose was clogged further up or there was a problem with the plastic nozzle. He put in a piece that fit inside both ends of the hose to reconnect them. I left and worked on it myself from there. I disconnected the nozzle then pulled it from the hose. The hose was clogged right there under the nozzle. I cleaned it out and put everything back. Now it works just fine. :yahoo:

Sneaky stuff how the dirt gets in there, huh? Good to know, because mine acted up shortly after your first post then it got freezing cold and I forgot about it. Its been raining so much here, that I haven't used the washers, but I'll check now. Thanks.;)
