Does anyone know if a wheel from a 1996 crown vic(16x8)will fit on my 68 country squire? Can get them for free, but it's a drive to get them. Just wondering if it's worth it. Not worried about the tire size, just the wheel.
A 16X8? Really? Stock would have been a 16X7, at the widest. To answer the question, though, yes the stock 16 inch Ford rim will fit the 68. Same offset, same bolt pattern, and SUPPOSED to be the same hub diameter. After market brake rotors can sometimes screw up that particular measurement and cause you some hassles, but should fit right on. I was looking for a set for Nora before the transmission quit on me and your 68 full sized and my 78 mid-sized specified the same rim. Oh, by the way, the Ford Ranger/Mazda B- series pick up rims are interchangeable as well.
Thanks bro. Yeah I thought that they were 7inch too, but the guy said he thinks they were 16x8. Like I was saying, I can get them for free but its a little over an hour ride. I guess Ill go get them. Thanks again:2_thumbs_up_-_anima
Play it safe, have you conection give you the bolt pattern measurments before you take the drive. Your 68 will have the same bolt patten as my 72. My 80 Colony had smaller bolt pattern with 15 inch rims and I still have the rims, can't remember the numbers but if you like I can give them tommorow. Sooo what I'm hinting at, 1996....... just make sure before you could get disapointed
Tedy: I think 68 was the last year Ford used the 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern on the full sized cars, before they went back to it for 79. I think the 69-72 used the 5 on 5, and I know the 72-78 did. What makes me think that is the people doing a front disc brake conversion on the 68 and older Country Squires are using the front brakes off the 77-79 Thunderbirds, including the discs, and those are the 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern. Also, one of the other Country Squires on here has a set of the 1990-something 15 inch alloys on it, and they are also the 5 on 4 1/2.
It all sounds so Fording dam confusing..... but, yeah, I guess, maybe,,,could be.... Why did they Furd things up?
THAT one is easy! With the redesign for 1969, the Ford full sized cars went to a bigger frame with a longer wheel base. The old 'full sized' frame was used for the new mid sized, full framed Torino and Montego. When they downsized the full sized cars for 79, they used the mid-sized 2 door frame as the basis for the 'new' Panther platform, which was a rehash of the 1960s vintage full sized frame. Just think, that same basic geometry was used until last year under the Crown Victoria. Talk about getting maximum return for an initial investment!
when in doubt abut rim bolt patterns, look up rims for the in question vehicle on website like Tire Rack or discount tire they will list it in the info.
I like to use this site for wheel bolt patterns: http://www.roadkillcustoms.com/hot-...p?LugCount=5&StudSpreadInch=4.5&StudSpreadMM= The bolt pattern is the same, as is the hub bore. You might wanna do a little research on the offset though. A lot of newer cars (even RWD) have higher offset than the older stuff. If the Crown Vic wheels have a higher offset, they will sit inside the wheel well further, and could possibly rub your suspension, etc. EDIT: Just did a quick Google search. The '96 Crown Vic wheels have a 6.4mm offset, which is about the same as older Fords. You should be good. Also the factory wheels are 16x7.
Sorry bout the wait guy's. Yes I have them and they fit. The tires are way to tall for my car, but the wheels are mint. Took almost an hour and 40 min one way, but they were free so I couldn't pass them up. Thanks for all the info guy's and yeah, it IS confusing:confused:. And thanks for that wheel fit guide n2fordmuscle, I'm sure to use that in the future.
my 72 C/sedan was 5x4.5...i use a the spare off the womans 92Jeep to get it home when i bought it mind ya...the 72 -78 LTD's and Merc were 5x5
