I sometimes wonder how some of you guys chose your usernames. Some are obvious, and others...well, they make me curious. Mine is Wixom61 because the '61 Lincoln Continental was built at the Wixom Assembly Plant. I've just always been fond of the Wixom plant because it built the wonderful Lincolns and Thunderbirds I've loved my entire life. Now, tell us why you chose your name. David
I think mine is pretty obvious but what the heck - we've had our '57 Pontiac Safari wagon for 30 years and some swine already had 57Safari when we tried to register an email address way back. I was going to shoot for Surfin Safari but again............and 57Pontiac but my buddy with the 2 dr Laurentian had nabbed that while I was chasing the others. So it became Safari57 and it works. My wife had suggested bigfatuglyguy but fortunately someone elses wife had already suggested that to someone else (whew). Same goes for elcheapo and whatthehellhappenedtomyhair So, that's my story and I'm sticking to it until she makes me change it
Oh that electric razor front end of the 61, always loved it. The second pic made me look twice....stearing wheel is on the other side but then I noticed the "POTS" sign hanging in the back gorund Yeah, I guess my name sceen name is clear
My user name is just what it is. Bob! Spells the same backwards but it's a little harder to pronounce. boB!
I have been asked this MANY times over the years. I have a poster on my wall entitled Forever 27. I take my screen name on every forum I belong to, I belong to sum 15 forums BTW. It is a painting by Scott Lobaido. It depicts the Forever 27 Bar. By invatition only of course. The patrons are Janis Joplin, Jim Morrision , Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain. All 4 musicans died at the age of 27. I enjoy each of their music very much.
I've said it elsewhere, but I'll say it again in this thread. With too many guys named Steve running around, my friends started refering to me by middle and last initial; Steve-E-D (pronounced Stevie-D) Steve-O is my mechanic buddy. I use different user names for different forum subjects. In the world of Professional Audio, I go by 130dB. On racing simulator sites, I am known as dB or [dB]
In my case the first forum I got on to was the TCCOA because I had the thunderibird with issues. Thus tbird and the sps are my initials. I use it all the time now.
Silverfox is a nic given to me by a group I worked with in Hollywood. Although I had white hair at a very early age it was only part of the reason for the nic. To make the film flow better, I had a propensity for changing scripts on the fly during shoots and some of them were calling me the silver screen fox. They thought it was cool. The producer didn't necessarily share that response. Anyway....the rest is history. Everyone just started calling me silverfox, silver, fox etc. Name stuck.
My parents are French Canadian. My dad was bilingual (English and French). He met my mom in Shawinigan, Quebec, while on leave during WWII. Mom spoke no English. After the war (Dad was a wireless Air Gunner), he got a job with an engineering firm, and went from one building site to another. I came along in 1948, went to kindergarten in a small English only town, and got the snot beat out of me for not speaking English. I think I hold the Canadian record for failing kindergarten. On my second round, I started fighting back, with words, ranting and cussing in French! By 6th Grade, I was still getting the snot kicked out of me, until the day that the school bully chased me home, right into my dad's front fender on his brand new 1955 Ford sedan. The old boy, grabbed me, made me face the kid, and told him to beat the snot out of me! I was so pissed that I hit my old man in the family jewels, which made my dad laugh and holler to my mom, that I finally got the idea. I dam near killed that kid! Nobody ever touched me any more. Almost happened again when we moved back to Quebec, where my mom wanted me to go to a French public school. I had lost most of my French by then, and the kids ragged and pushed me around. Until one day, this one kid went to far, and they had to take us to the hospital to sedate me enough to loosen my grip on his throat. There was a lot of words between both groups, and I got Stormin' Norman for a nickname. In college, in English again, it worked out good when I ran for Student VP and later Prez. Easy moniker for campaign signs. I got so pissed in different History versions taught in English and French schools, that Canadian History became a hobby. By the time I had passed both systems' highschools, not one History professor would try to colour it with his political agenda. Niether would the Catholic friars start up with their hogwash justifications of the Conquests or Inquisitions. I just couldn't keep my tongue in my pocket. Imagine how I am with Spanish as well! Whole new range of expletives! Gotta thank my dad for teaching me to fight back, and the Army for the finer points, and my old schoolmates for giving me a 'proving' ground. I just don't take crap, but I don't go looking for trouble either. No chips on my shoulders. I figured out that you get less results with vinegar and more with understanding. Took a while.
My '88 (Panther) Mercury is known as a "box" because the '80's full size Ford cars looked like, well, boxes. Mine has wood on the side, so Pine Box. Plus I'll probably be driving this car 'till I die.....
Way back when I first needed a e-mail moniker, I wanted something with 'car' in it - 'carguy' was a natural, but already taken, in many embelishments, so I chose 'karguy427' - '427' signifying both Ford and Chevy engines (not that I ever had one of either...). It's still my e-mail to this day. When I started using forums and on-line racing sims, I still used karguy427, but then decided I wanted something a bit more catchy. Thought of the nostalgia singing group Flash Cadillac and the Continental Kids......Flash Cadillac.......hmmmm....I'm into crashed cars.......hmmmm......easy to get to Krash Kadillak from there........
Our's are funny. We got them from two separate sources that are unrelated and yet the names fit together. I got the nickname "The Stickman" from guys at work because I of being tall and skinny. At the time around 165lbs and 6'4". The wife got the nickname "Twig" from one of her girlfriends kids. They said she looked like a twig and started calling her that. Both stuck.
I'm 1/2 Blackfoot Native American, tho I do not look it. Both my grand mothers were 100%, one grandfather is 100% Hungarian, the other 100% Swedish.
