Hey guys, I want some advice on what i need to look for in buying a used wagon. Going to see an 86 mercury colony park tomorrow but not sure what I need to be looking for, rust underneath, leaking engine parts, doors open and close properly, all gadgets work, no funny noises from the engine.. Anything else? Thanks
Trim is all there and can be refinished? Bad rust below the tailgate window? Rear Doglegs in good shape? Tirewell also. Good luck.
Ya just about any part can be replaced, so rust is the big problem. I take a camera with a flip around viewing screen, and hold the camera on the ground and adjust the screen so I can take photos of all the areas underneath the car, especially the rear quarters, rockers and footwell areas.
I had this in another post, but it applies here also. Things to check when looking at it are to make sure the transmission still shifts good and that OD still works. The TV cable bushing that ford used was plastic and likes to fall out, and can cook the transmission. Also check the passenger side frame near the front for rot. The frame rail on the passenger side likes to rust through because of the A/C drain location.
