Tomorrow marks the 11th anniversary of the cowardly attack on the United States by agents representing those against our freedom and our way of life. My high school principal's youngest son, Kenneth Miles McBrayer, Class of '70, Briarwood High School, East Point, GA was in the south tower when it collapsed. He was an upper class man when we were in school so I did not know him well but he certainly didn't deserve to die this way. He was a US Naval Academy graduate, a USN veteran, a husband and a father. We had a remembrance walk here in Newnan yesterday and there will be a ceremony tomorrow in the center of town at our historic 100 year old Court House hosted by our local law enforcement to honor those who perished as well as the first responders to the crisis. Alan Jackson produced a song a few years ago, the link will take you there if you'd like to hear it. God Bless the USA! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AW8puRqE4Sc
It is one of the few times in life when I remember where I was and exactly what I was doing at that moment when I found out.
Good thread, thanks for starting it. One of those defining moments in our two countries histories - in fact the worlds if you look what has transpired since. So many lives lost, so much pain and sorrow and it still hits my heart like it was this morning. I was getting on to a plane when the first tower was hit, we landed at the next big city and that was when we learned about the rest of the horror unfolding. We continue to keep them all, those who died, their families and friends, in our prayers.
...ditto... I've been so busy at work these days I didn't realize the date, thankyou for the reminder. God Bless all those that keep us safe everyday my just doing their jobs.
I was working graveyard shift back then. I had just got off work and driving homebefore it happened. Sinc I don't listen to the radio I had Grand Funk Railroads Caught in the act cassette playing in the car. Id just gotton home , I usually would watch the morning block of the three stooges as I went off to bed around 7 am. But every friggin channel was showing some fire in new tork. Why would I care what happens in new york, I'm 3000 miles west. Just as I got up to change the channel, a second plane curved around and flew into the world trade center. Holy crap, that's no flying error, that was on purpose. I stayed glued to the Tv all day. I didn't get to bed that morning and went to work a walking zombie that night. It was a rough rest of the year for america. All thoes poor people that died. It was awful.
I remember driving to work in the dark that morning and hearing that a "small plane" had hit one of the towers. I was a service writer at the Auto A/C shop then, and we had a tv in the customer waiting room, which I put on to CNN as soon as I opened the shop. I remember the owner and I were watching the coverage when the second plane hit. I can't believe it was 11 years ago. Really sad. We made a trip to NYC that November and I remember seeing all the flyers posted along the river and around Battery Park for missing family members, fathers, sons, mothers, it still breaks your heart. Thanks for starting the thread, and yes, we'll never forget. -Mike
Let's hope we never have to relive a day like that - thanks to all of service members, first responders and care givers. God Bless America. There's plenty we can complain about in the USA, but we have a whole lot more to be thankful for than to complain about.
I have my thoughts about the things that occured that day, but I will not bring them to this thread or this forum. That being said I think our country changed forever that day, in some ways good and in some ways bad. We lost some freedom and some good innocent people. The feeling of a common bond of being "Americans" was amazing and for a short time we came together as a nation and neighbors smiled at eachother and checked in on friends and family. When I think back that's what I try to focus on, the fact that for just that short time the bickering stopped and we all stood together as a nation...one nation.
very very sad day. and i would just like to say, not as an attack on any person here or any person in general, but the conspiracy theories that people come up with really piss me off, i have the so much respect for all the people who died on 9-11 and everyone who helped and thankfully didnt die. every year, i shed tears on 9-11 and for people to disrespect and spit on the fact of what happened kills me. GOD BLESS FREEDOM AND THE USA!
Amen to all above, huge gratitude to all those who sacrificed not only that day, but continue to sacrifice in service to our communities and our country. Thank you veterans for your bravery and courage in protecting our freedom.
