We've got a 1963 Buick Special wagon waaay over at the right end of the parking lot in the picture, so the photo is at least from late 1962, if not more recent. Those style of custom wheels I remember as being some of the first available, so I would say they are period-correct.

That was a style from back then, can't remember the mfr., but it definitely was back in the day. May have been a Cragar design.

I've seen this same picture before. Both cars had the G.M. "X Frame" that was in the 59 in the 1959 Chevy vs 2009 Chevy video.

I'm more than a bit tired of seeing people say "The 59 had no engine" but I can guarantee you, it had one. I don't have time to look for the behind the scenes video, but in that video they pulled the car in and had a photo shoot with it before crash testing it. I also could tell that the engine was in it from a different camera angle during the crash; I saw the air cleaner. It was a Straight 6 car, though, not a V8.

Well, at least they didn't waste a top of the line Impala with a 348 in it

Yeah. They may have chosen the worst offender for the video, though. Any X Frame Car with a Straight 6 is gonna be just as bad.

I found the behind the scenes footage, BTW. The pic with the engine is at 2:32. I think I see the blue paint on the engine at 2:52.

    If the engine's blue, it's a 6

"Health Food Store?" Wait, those existed then? I'm guessing they aren't the same animal that they are today.

It was the older animal bred in California who started this trend, as well as many others

Los Angeles International Airport, photo taken in the early 70's most probably. At this time, the terminal complex (and new control tower in the background) was about 10 years old. I think it was some time in the late 70's when planning got started for a major remodeling / expansion of the terminal complex. They ended up putting in an entire second level to the access roads you see here, making one level 'arrivals' and the other level 'departures'. They also added one completely new terminal building for international flights, allowing the bigger jets more room. Another new control tower was also added a few years later.

Most people in the area want to avoid driving into LAX for flights, if they can..... When we went to Hawaii in '86 and '88, we took a shuttle bus. A lot easier.

I remember visiting the OLD terminal as a kid, which was located to the east of this complex, and back then, it was more like a large bus station.....

I flew from Honolulu to LAX in September '87, at the end of my first Westpac deployment...I had to go from one terminal to the next, and all I remember is that part of my sojourn was on a moving sidewalk, and there was some redecorating going on.
