Anybody watch that on Sunday night? Not as good (IMO) as the BBC Top Gear show, but at least they're trying. Anyway during a preview of upcoming events, they showed a Roadmaster wagon doing a burnout and then they filled it to the roof with water? The rear tire looked like it was going to pop. Let's hope they have good things to say about this car. Or maybe not, because that will drive the prices up. I'm looking for to it though. Every Sunday night at 10 EST I think.
I meant to watch this and got sidetracked... Errrrrrrr... Guess I'll have to shoot for next weekend. I wonder if I can stream it online... I'll have to look...
You didn't miss much except for the previews of upcoming shows. This one was all about Lamborghinis, whatever. $500,000 ? whatever. I can build a Chevy motor that makes 650 hp for under $15,000. Drop it in my Camaro (which is the plan btw, once my house remodel is done) and blow some doors off of the exotics.
i watched via DVR this morning. i was somewhat dissapointed. there is something missing from the USA version but i cant put my finger on it! maybe its the over explaination of things such as the stig. I am worried about what they will do to that poor wagon. supposedly it is on craigslist somewhere now that they are done with it. i assume its one of those $1500 used car challenges. where each goes and pics his favorites with the aloted $$$.
I watched American Top Gear last night too. Overall, I just was not impressed. What I see that lacked, personality between the hosts. And the delivery of the jokes fell flat. I would rather watch the original BBC TG. I saw the previews for the American TG. A1AWind you are correct, the BBC version did a challenge where water was filled as one of the challenges. Here is the link for part 1 out of 4 for the challenges they do with British Leyland motor cars. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cK6NqYDi14 Link 3. This is when they fill the cars with water. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCTyhE-fRzs&feature=related
I'm with you on this I dislike my friends saying how cool lambos are and how much hp they make blah blah blah. I'm totally with you on building a high hp v8. I always dislike hearing this v12 makes 500hp..my reaction is what really?!?! that's all? lol
Horrible show compared to the original. It will never improve as long as they have those 3 hosts, and as long as it's based in the US using only cars available in the US. The big thing though is they'll never replicate the chemistry of Jeremy, Richard and James.
Do you know if they're showing a repeat? Is it also called "top gear"? (I'll look for it on comcast on demand) What I like about the original is definitely the chemistry, and I'll add, the photography (cinematography?). It's really a very polished, professional show, no matter how unprofessionally unobjective the challenges are Beats so many other "reality" car challenge shows out there.
Give it a chance it's only been one episode, go check out the early British Top Gear shows. Top Gear Roady ad. http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/cto/2051777166.html Come on, how can you guys call yourselves car guys, and be so ho hum about Lamborghini's! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foDcLUhUKqI
if you like italian, here is in my opinion... the pinnacle. the Italia! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJIk0ImuncI but if you like japanese and wanna sound like an f1 car look no further than the Lexus LFA: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6D7S2rcyIQ German is nice too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inuwUncuw7Q&feature=related but awsome sound can also come from unexpected places too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcbvplOBoqg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lo7YTpq-MGg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yzpc_Km41PE
I watched the U.S. Top Gear I wasn't particularly impressed mostly due to the hosting and some of the hum drum testing. Even my wife, that isn't really into watching car shows, commented on how much more boring the U.S. one was than the British one. The things I noticed were that the relationship between the hosts hasn't built up yet. They had this problem even in the beginning episodes of British Top Gear where they didn't have either James or Hampster, I can't remember which and instead had a guy that was sort of a used car salesman. Another thing I noticed about the U.S. Top Gear was the testing was stretched out...such as the test between the Lambos where the British one, they would have run them side by side in a proper drag race, here they erred on the side of safety and ran them individually. Not nearly as effective at building excitement. Anyways, having said all of that, I like to give shows a three strike rule. I'll watch three episodes to see if they build up some "charisma" and if not, I'll cut them loose. I watched the first few episodes of the Australian Top Gear and they had the exact same problem as the U.S. one where the hosts were ridiculously cheezy and unbearable to listen to.
I watched the second episode last night - seemed a little better. I like the filming style so well that it made me want to watch. Definitely not the personalities of the Brits, but maybe with time. The section where they are drifting against a blind guy who'd never driven a standard shift was good - and the ending had me laughing... We'll see how it evolves... I'll give it a few weeks...
