i went to the dr's monday. checked my blood pressure and it was elevated ...high...not crazy high..but still high. so they did blood work. my cholesterol was high as was my sugar level. oh an i also weigh 25 lbs more than i thought i did. so as of tuesday i started eating lower carbs and i am going to the high school stadium and walking the track every night after work. im only 32 i shouldnt be having these problems.
My doctor told me if I didn't lose weight that we'll be having the heart-attack conversation at 40. I'm 38. Scary stuff. I lost a TON of weight at 30, when my wife was pregnant with our first kiddo. I think I stopped eating for worry something was going to happen to her or the baby. Everything worked out fine...and sadly I gained it all back, and more. I will say the older you get, the harder it gets. Start now and you'll get it off. Drink lots of water and eat a lot of soup for meals. It'll come off. Good luck!
I have to agree with the soups and water. Trick is ya have to start looking at the labels listing the ingedients. Sodium(salt) is the worst. Fats and trans fats, I try to keep my levels at 8 or below. Veggies, eat your veggies boy and I'm talking fresh not frozen. You don't have to give up everthing, just change it up a little... Ground turkey is awsome in chili. The average lean ground beef has apx 32% fat, where as ground bison/buffalo has apx 10% Cooking, online you can find many heart smart, Diabetes recipies that are awesome. There are some pritty darn good recipies in there, with meat! This one I have made before, I used low fat Turkey bratworst, the fat levels are under 10..... Chicken, shrimp, and low fat Turkey Brats Jambalia The base of this recipe is from Bonnie Stern’s Heart Smart Cooking I added Lamb Sausage to my last Sunday night Dinner Menu Makes 6 servings, but can easily be doubled http://appetizinglyyours.wordpress.com/ Changing your diet is going to be the hardest thing, was for me. I'm not saying I don't indulge now and then but for the most part it is the way I eat now....
Just recently finished with my latest round of doctoring, patient-wise. My A1C test dropped 3 tenths, but i'm still in the high 7's. For a diabetic, I should be right at 7.0. Still got a ways to go there. My biggest chance for improvement is, of course, MORE EXERCISE. So......I guess I walk and ride the bike. Opthomolgist (sp) yesterday. No signs of diabetic changes. Cool.
I'm now 45. Within the last year I've dropped 70 lbs. I started by adding a meal to my daily regiment: breakfast. Well, it's not really a meal but a starter snack to steady my metabolism; cheese stick or banana or yogurt cup and a bottle of green tea replaces the coffee I used to drink. Weekend breakfasts include healthy cereals or eggs/turkey bacon. For lunch, I replaced Subway/Wendy's/Mexican restaurant with a cheese stick, cup of yogurt and cup of applesauce and another green tea to replace the Coke Zero I'd always have. For dinner it's pretty much wide open since my daily caloric intake is low to that point. I just don't go back for more. The majority of the weight came off with no change in exercise which isn't much with a desk job. In the warmer months I'm more active on weekends and after work but since I can get pretty sedentary in the dead of winter I did buy a treadmill in January and used it heavily until the weather shaped up. I've gone from 285 to 215 and have been stuck here for a few weeks now so I may have to add some more exercise to knock out the last 15.
I am 44 and also diabetic like KK, my diabetes is easy to control with diet and exercise, I lost 101 lbs in 2 years and have been my current weight 118 lbs for almost two years. Water is a key and healthy eating is as well, but I attribute most of it to my job, running stairs all day long and on my feet for 10 to 12 hours in an average day. I struggle with my A1C as well...learning how to eat again was definitely the hardest part. Good luck A1 I know you can do it!!
Greg, congrats on the weight lost. I've been lucky that I've ate like crap most of my life, but it doesn't show on blood tests. I'm 43 and everything tests normal. However, I'm overweight and didn't have the energy level I use to have. I decided to go vegetarian about a couple months ago. I've done it twice in the past, but it didn't last more than 2 months. It's can be tough but I'm eating as much as I want. I just stay away from meat, sugary drinks and sugary snacks and try to limit my dairy also. I've caved in and eaten fast food once and couldn't believe how bad it tasted and that I was eating that crap sometimes 3 times a day. Without any exercise, I've lost 13 pounds and my energy level stays the same all day. I used to have peaks a valleys with my energy level. With the small amount I've lost, I can't believe the amount of people that notice. I think I lost most of it in my face. I'm starting an exercise program in the next couple of days to take of more weight and get in better shape.
Okay all of you guys, here's the simple and fun way to loose weight. Get the love of your life, preferably your wife, pregnant. And eat right with plenty of exercise. All those things I don't do. :banghead3:
Wow, I mean WOW! you guys are doing awesome losing all that weight, congratulations. I've been trying to lose a few pounds myself, just cause I wanted to not because of any health issues. But you guys are an inspiration. Hang in the Ian a life style change can be tough at first but it'll become routine and you will feel so much better. Good luck.
Ive been working out 3 to 5 times a week for the past year and a half and have improved my diet. I eat fish 2-3 times a week, have lots of fruit and veggies, dont drink soda or have sugary snacks. I also cut down on the fast food and have not had a Big Mac since last fall. As a result, I have lost 30 pounds.
