    God Bless Texas! :yahoo:

I'm told the roads out to the west are getting the 85 signs already. Here in Austin they just jumped us up to 80.

    I'll take it!

    That's cool.....
Most interstates around here are 65 max. Just a very few places that have 70 posted. You've got to watch it when you get to cities, though. Like going north on I-5 you're cruising along at 65 into Salem (the state capital) and quite a few fail to notice the speed limit's dropped to 55 - and it's a big, wide freeway where you could easily cruise 70+......

I am not quite a fan of this.

I like going 85 or so in the right vehicle, at the right time, on the right road.

I do not like the thought of being surrounded by drivers and vehicles that shouldn't even be going 50, now going 85.

This may be an Austin democrat's population reduction plan.

Here in the beautiful state of Georgia, we're at 65 to 70 in the rural areas only on the interstates, still 55 as far as I know in urban populated areas. I think there may be stickers on the 65 and 70 mph signs saying "except little 2002 Kias - 55!"

It's at 70 still, 65 downtown. They may up to to 75 but I doubt it'll go to 80 in the city.

I'd be a little leery of running 80-85 in our 88 4wd Trooper. It would prolly run that fast ok with the 4 sp OD trans, and its got some pretty decent brakes on it, but its also got a pretty high center of gravity. Might have to stick to the right lane with the Kias! :dancing:

About time, sheeze....I remeber when it all changed to 55 in the USA, yet we in Canada had 100KPH = 62MPH. Our highways also have been increasing speed limits, again, about time.

Here in my world it is now 60MPH on many two lanes, 65 on divided 4-lanes almost clear to towns, and I believe either 70 or 75 on the interstates. The 65MPH is even where access roads and businesses are.

Now add 10-15+ MPH average to 50+ or more of the vehicles and it gets a little hairy and scary ! Watching many of these people in walkers, wheelchairs, Hover-roundy things, etc. getting in and out of cars and it gets real scary! Watching others leaving Bubba's bar and grille and I really don't want to go to town anymore ! (After I wrote this part I realized that not far from home is Bubba's Bar)
I love going fast, but with so many half fast drivers talking on phones, eating, and so many other distractions, no wonder we don't have fender benders in Florida, rather total wipe outs !
I suppose these higher speed limits are to thin out the over population.

I agree, out in the open higher speeds are welcome. But anyone visiting or living in Florida knows even our interstate system is little more than a moving parking lot with only a few car spaces between, no matter how we try to leave a car length for every 10 MPH. I'm acting like an old man! But some of us old men want to stay alive.

Those are some good points Cat man. Distracted driving seems to be as bad now as driving under the influence was back in the day!
