I can't believe it, we buy milk here for $.94 a gallon for the good stuff, and chocolate 1% for the same. In the same company store in Florida the same brand is usually near $4.00. Both stores have cows living next door. High class cows in Florida! We did luck out this morning. Temp went from 50 yesterday to below freezing last night, thunder, rain, little bit of snow, and tiny amount of freezing rain. I'm sure that coating of ice now on everything surprised a few people. Don't look bad from this side of the house windows.
Here in Nashville it's rare to find a born and bred local yokel like myself. The town is full of Yankees from the bitter north. And they all say the same thing. "No one can drive in winter weather in this town!!!" Let me explain something. In the south it don't snow much, so when it does, yes the whole town shuts down over half an inch. The diffence is, if it does snow, more than likely it was raining or melting before it got cold enough to freeze, leaving an inch of ice under that half inch of snow. Another difference is the tax dollars won't be wasted on brine, salt, and definitely not plows. (It's better spent on giant guitar statues and roundabout s). When it does snow, We wait 4 hours for the sun to come out and melt everything. During that time you got all these jackwagons sliding around on untreated roads and shutting down the interstates. I don't care who you are, ice is ice and its properties don't change based on the geographical location you are from!! Phew!!! Glad that's off my chest! Welcome to Nashville! Now y'all go home!
"Giant guitar statues and roundabouts." Were we here in Western Washington to be so lucky.... Yeah, we have the same problem: usually little to no snow, and most have no idea that you are required to slow way down when it snows, no matter how it falls from the sky. Part of the problem is all the corporate ogres in distant cities who demand people be at work in Seattle, and on time, so everyone's in a rush when nobody, but those who have to be in it, should be out there.
We adopted our first grandson and took him to Florida from Illinois before he was five. The little he knew about snow he'd forgotten. Now this tall thin boy thinks he's a red neck because he lives and breathes with other rednecks. He's destroyed more cars and trucks mud boggin than I've owned. His favorite flag is red with a "X' in the middle. He says y'al and 'hold my beer, you ain't gonna believe this sh**' before he does a burn out in the Walmart parking lot. Well he met a cute little fat girl who lived in Minneapolis. With his new very used Chebby Blazer with 4-wheel drive he headed north in the winter of 2015, or when ever Nashville got that large snow. Now it's a 4-wheel drive, it'll go anywhere. He did some donuts and ended up in the median on I 65 among a million other cars, trucks, and buses. Lucky he got right out but learned about ice, snow, and multiwheel traction. I had retired from truckin right about when 4-wheel drive vehicles became popular in Illinois. I could almost tell which one passing me was going to end up off the road. People like 1tireman Dennis are more used to avoiding gators than ice so many of them end up in a swamp too. My favorite car as a kid for winter driving was my 1957 VW Beetle with grandma's old snow tires. I'd go thru anything but still respected ice. From show car to salvage yard.
THAT Is a nice el Camino! Say it ended up in the salvage yard?! If he is going to fly the ol' "stars and bars" maybe you should explain to him where exactly the Mason-Dixon Line is... Minnesota is waaaaay over. Then again cute little fat chicks can be hard to resist, as long as his redneck buddies don't find out I guess it's ok to sleep with the enemy. That snow was 2015 and on and to speak on your boys behalf it was the most snow I've ever seen in my life!!! Although I avoided the interstate i definitely ruined a pair of tires spinning around the back roads in my 2wd chevy.
It was snowing pretty hard when I came home from work this evening, about 3" was down, it was a slow drive home. The line I was in, about six cars, was only going about 50km. We came upon a car that was nose first into a steep ditch. I took a quick glance over and there was still someone in the car. No one else pulled over so I did. I thought it was a woman was driving but it turned out to be a young guy. He said he was fine, had already called his grandpa to come and get him, said grandpa only lived a few minutes away, he didn't want to warm up in the truck so I left. Two other cars did stop while I was there so that made me feel better. Got to take it easy out there folks.
Jeez! Not to be morbid but I thought of this instantly and Since I have to be reminded of it I'm a taking you with me! In that same snow here in Nashville a young mother of 3 young little ones stopped to help someone who skidded off the interstate and she was fatally struck by another car. Like I said hate to be a cynic, but ya'll be careful out there!!! God bless the healers ---And also chances are it's just some dumb kid like me getting a good life lesson for driving like a maniac
^^^^^^i don't know why even said that... freak accidents happen everyday. Nothing should stop you from being a proper citizen. Good for you, and keep up the good work. We need ya! with that I'm hittin the hay. Sorry
I've only been thru Nashville in summer weather. Sometimes 20+ miles over the speed limit without slowing or stopping. Sometimes for hours in a rolling parking lot. Only once got the fickle finger of fate from a guy in a hurry in a fancy car while I was pulling an RV at the speed limit. Actually they are called "accidents" for a reason. The worlds best drivers have accidents. Ice, snow, wind, and wet pavement competing with rubber tires have a mind of their own! But sadly most accidents could be prevented by driving according to conditions, staying sober, and keeping both eyes and hands on the steering wheel. There are parking lots and off road places, even back roads, to do burn outs and donuts if that thrills you. Not on city streets! I applaud fannie. I stop to help or at least check on another accident victim if it's safe and no one else stopped. It really is never safe to be stopped or standing along an interstate. Notice how many cops and construction workers are killed while outside their car with red or blue lights flashing! I've seen bikers broke down or wrecked while other bikers just ride on past. Not only because I was a biker, I stop to see if they need me to call or send help. As for the El Camino show car, I followed it being towed to a local scrap yard for under $100 just after he spent a fortune on new parts. He loved mud boggin and loved it when his redneck friends dared him to try things jacked up trucks couldn't do. Years of abuse, three deer, engines, transmissions, etc. killed the El Camino. As for the cute little fat gal from Minnesota. Far from cute, far from helpful or friendly. She ended up a year or so later back in Minnesota, fatter, and lonelier than before. Keep in mind, everything I write is politically correct!
You are absolutely right. When you slide off the road like that it is important to stay inside your car so you don't get hit by another car doing the same thing you just did. When I passed by the car I thought the person was in distress by the way she (I thought the driver was a woman at the time) head moved her head. There was clearly no other tracks in the snow so I knew no one had checked on the driver. We were travelling on the secondary road( #2 hwy) so I carefully pulled over, waited for the others to pass by then I backed up, waited for another car to go by then hopped out and checked on the driver. He was a young guy, teenager, seemed really nice and a bit embarrassed about the whole thing. Who hasn't slide a car off the road? We all learn by making mistakes. Side note...there was a time when I saw another car off the road one time. I was on the main hwy but it just wasn't safe to stop so I called the Mounties, other passers by had already called in so they were on their way. It's really difficult to pass by someone off the road in a snow storm. I just do what I would want someone to do for me if I was in their shoes.
I'm gonna watch that new gator hunting TV show closely. Maybe we'll see 1tireDennis in his new flat bottom boat wrestlin gators if he survives the rough Louisiana winter. I get him mixed up with Willie on Duckie Dynasty!
????????????????? I beg to differentiate. I was on topic. I mentioned a rough Louisiana winter, 1tireman, gators which live in Louisiana, a redneck TV show, and Dennis's other brothers, the Duck Dynasty boys............. plus now his uncle Si. Sounds like rough survival to me!
