Thought I'd jump over and play with the wagons awhile.
    Have a great day.

    Welcome!
Went and got a haircut today (actually, all 10 of them....:rofl2:)
Was talking to my barber. He showed me a pic of his '36 Ford Convert (restored, stock), then i asked him what else he had - says his work-in-progress is a '53 Chevy panel.....

Very nice interior on your Suburban....

Love the 'burbs. Wish I had room and money for one of everything I like. I'd have one from each of the various models tucked away for trailer towing duty and pleasure driving. Might yet be forced to get a 70 style and keep the Safari for just playing, if we keep doing trips to the land of sun and fun and cheap (relatively) fuel.

Too cool! Can you show some more details on how you rigged the tilt on the passenger seat, I will need to do exactly the same thing.

I am one of the few on here that think SUV's and "Crossovers" are really station wagons. There...I said it!

I laugh when I read articles like "Death of the Station Wagon". I look around and see vehicles with no trunk, storage space behind the rear seat, third row seats, and a lift gate, 2 and 4 doors, and think "yeah right!"

It's more like the death of the TERM "Station Wagon". The terms SUV and Crossover are really just clever marketing hokus-pokus, and the automakers found a way to turn something that was uncool into something cool just by beefing and bulking it up, and calling it a Sports Utility Vehicle! Utility is what the classic station wagon offered...but this new vehicle offers "sports utility"! OOOH! So MACHO!
Who wouldn't want to drive this "New" kind of vehicle.

    Perfect example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beE42k6Bt8M
Guess what you little sh!t, your mom is driving you home in a bloated, giant-wheeled station wagon! But it's so macho!

In the '90's, the automakers shifted most of their attention to small crap cars, and big trucks that didn't have to meet the CAFE standards. The notion that station wagons had to be derived from a normal sedan is an old-fashioned idea, that doesn't take into account what was really going on with the American automakers in the last two decades.

Trucks had V8's, a beefy frame, and could tow...just like the sedans of the earlier decades. Basing the "utility vehicles/wagons" on these platforms that the automakers could still make money on, was a no-brainer. And by moving the wagon over to the truck category, the automakers didn't have to comform to and thereby limit the wagon's new found rugged capabilities. They can tow with ease, and go off road...but they are still wagons!

And then there are the "Crossovers". These are mostly repackaged from small unibody car and minivan platforms, but guess what! They're wagons!

Give the customer what they want, just don't tell them what it really is...A STATION WAGON!

I know that most everyone will disagree with me, and there are definitely exceptions to what I am saying here, but for the most part, I feel that Excursions, all the way down to Sportages, are all station wagons. I just happen to like traditional station wagons that I grew up with.

    David :)

yep, if it has a long nose and a long roof it's a wagon to me.

Funny. I have had my 58' 4x4 Suburban longer than either of my 2 current wagons.

Being a 4x4 and a TANK it opperates on a whole different level (litterally) than the wagons.. Like 8 feet off the ground to the roof.

I do prefer the lower profile of the wagons over the SUV's.

Problem is.....I keep turning my wagons into Trucks!

I am seriously thinking of putting air shocks on the front of the 70' Chryler T&C.

It has Great clearance, better than any wagon I have seen. It goes up steep, rough, mountain trails perfectly...

Coming down is a whole different story...Hit the brakes before a rut or large rock and all that hood and weight of the 440 come crashing down.

I started a frame off restoration on the Suburban years ago and have yet to get it bac together.

One thing is for sure!...I will never go over 120MPH in the Suburban like I have in the T&C Wagon!

A Suburban is an SUV, going by that an SUV is a station wagon style body on a truck frame.
I guess you could call it all three things and be correct but in the traditional sense to me a station wagon is built on a car type chassis and is based on a car in the marque's lineup.
They should have denoted Suburbans and Wagoneer type vehicles as "Truck Wagons".:)
I guess you could call it a station wagon, a lot more truck than wagon im my eyes though.

A Suburban can be called an SUV or a wagon but a car based station wagon isn't an SUV.
Don't call my car one, like calling a lady a broad.

A station wagon is a station wagon and an SUV is an SUV and never the twain shall meet.:rofl2:
