Funny you should say that. I ordered vinyl that matched my cargo deck area. I ordered 36". I got 27". It was sent already bonded on a cardboard type material, huge flat package. When I contacted SMS they did the right thing and sent a replacement. The replacement came rolled up in a tube. Completely different material with the same face. Makes me wonder what went on at SMS.
They make the vinyl so they could do a pattern on other materials I would guess. I had a roll of original blue GM vinyl for my ex Vista Cruiser's seats and I needed another roll. SMS made it and you really couldn't tell the difference. It wasn't cheap and they charged the trim shop up front before they would do it, took a couple of months to make and my trim guy was not happy. It smelled really good though, like a new car. They are basically the only guy in town so you don't have much choice.
They helped me out a few years ago when I was restoring the carpet panels in the cargo area of my '75 CE. Carpet was a perfect match. I'm attempting to order fabric samples for my '87 CE now...as soon as I can figure out my trim tag info.
I agree ,but if you had 4 panels done at a shop it would be about half that and nowhere as good as the SMS ones.
Has anyone dealt with SMS recently. The BBB site has a listing of complaints the past 2 years. Looking for dark blue cloth seat material for our 87 Safari, GM code 27D.
When I bought my 65 vista a couple years ago I went online with SMS punched in all the info they needed and within a few weeks I received samples of the materials I needed. They were a spot on match! Like some have already mentioned it's a little pricey so I haven't pulled the trigger on buying what I need to do the whole wagon. Good luck with your pursuit.....Longroofs Rule!
Thanks for the info wagoninsane. Hopefully they will get back to me in a few weeks also. Good luck with your 65, they are good looking wagons.
Thanks annap01gt, just talking about this interior stuff has made me pull the samples out to look over and I'm thinking of pulling the trigger and have my whole interior redone! Got a few leads on some good interior guys up in the Buffalo area, just got to commit to getting it done.....Longroofs Rule!
Hi Wagoninsane. Sms said no code match in their system and are now working from photos I emailed. Meanwhile checking local shops for the fabric but so far no luck. I should have gotten on this search last Spring when the material on the drivers seat first began to pull apart. Now, even if I get the material I may have to wait until after the snowbirds go home next Spring for a shop to do such a small project. Will keep you posted. As you say, Longroofs do rule. Always liked the heading of The American Station Wagon Owners Association newsletter - "Why would yo drive anything else".
