Since my wife got to go to both Colorado and California a couple weeks back, and I got Daddy duty with the 5-kids, she's given me a hall pass this weekend.

So fishing, camping, watching sports with friends.....NOT ME! Right after work today I'm tossing the tools in the back and heading for Dallas for the weekend. Staying at my brother and sister-in-law's house, and will be salvage yarding the best yards in Texas tomorrow and Sunday.

Not everyone's idea of a restful weekend I know....going to the worst parts of town to dig through junk, but hey, that's ME!

I've been making a list and checking it twice. Cruiser/Cutlass/Denali and Ram all need little stuff. Dallas is great, NOTHING is rusted, and there are seven pull-it-yourself type yards in the DFW area. Plus Awesome Auto Salvage with it's once-a-month All-You-Can-Carry for $50...hehe.

Only bummer is the weather...73 degrees on Sat, which is great, but a cold front coming in, so thunderstorms in the evening, and a cold 56-degrees on Sunday. Will have to bring my rubber floor mats and mud boots...and a coat...I HATE coats!

    PICS TO FOLLOW.

    I LOVE Texas yards!

Good luck Mike. Carrying a complete long block engine or a new overdrive auto shouldn't be too difficult on that gravel for $50. :taz:

Our son says at the local U-Pull-Its you can use a cart or Cherry picker on large wheels then only have to carry the items a short distance.
Never actually been to a pull apart myself.
When I was a kid the cars where randomly piled and stacked among muck and mud with oil, grease, and varmints between.

    Hall pass??
My wife asks me when we're going boneyarding.
She even has special boneyard clothes and is very proud of the Pull-a-Part card on her keychain.:)
You need somebody to guard the tools, carry parts, and fetch refreshments and food.:D
She's a great parts hound too.:)

So jealous...that $50 All I Can Carry thing would be great for a pile of ECU's and instrument clusters to resell on eBay...and I could make enough doing that to buy all the other parts I actually needed the next time I go.

If you get to Dallas, make sure you go to Awesome. They're SO cheap, and the yard is huge, and if you time it right for an All-You-Can-Carry weekend, you can really clean up.

I guess I'll share this as well....way back in 1994 I stood up my now-wife Misty for our very first date by staying late at Awesome because when I got there it was an All-You-Can-Carry day. No cell phone then...I just never showed up...

Our very first date....we were supposed to go to Olive Garden....and I was in Dallas 70 miles away pulling off Chevy Citation Parts.... :slap:

And yet I begged her the next day and got her to go out the next weekend....and then married her a few years later.

But she still has not fully forgiven me for standing her up for a junkyard on our first date... It gets brought up whenever I'm bad....

Address and info on Awesome Auto Salvage.

There is only ONE problem I have with all the wonderful pictures you post: I keep seeing wonderful, rare, old cars that I want to OWN so badly it hurts! That and the fact that what is in the yard is in better shape than what I drive!

I agree Mike. And back in central Illinois most of those Texas junkers would be show cars!

hope you made it to pick n pull off jefferson st. near loop 12 and I-30. lots of 70's and 80's cars there with lots to pick off. even totally intact for 460 v8's! also hope you get to hit up ctc auto ranch north of denton, truly something you'd think you died and gone to classic car heaven.
