Just got this car and the "tail gate ajar" dash light won't go off and I feel certain the gate is securely closed. Any suggestions? Also, the gate will only open sideways and not down. Thanks.

Hi mr braniac, my name is Ian and i am your roadmaster expert today.

the tailgate ajar light is a royal pain. the best way to resolve this is to unplug the sensor within the tailgate.

remove the trim panel on the gate. then the metal plate behind it.
on the passenger side will be a few connectors. open the tailgate as a door and unplug the wire that turns the tailgate ajar light on.

we hope this has been helpful thank you for calling roadmaster helpline

I found that if you apply a little down pressure when closing the gate (sideways) the gate will then open downwards easier and the light will go off as well. At least on the one I had, this worked.

I can't help but feel that the gate ajar dash warning is caused by the gate not closing properly so it will open both ways. I'll try this last suggestion first. Thank you all.

Any thoughts on the two interior rear lights and why the switches won't turn them on and off? Once again, the switches turn them off then on everytime you click them. I took the bulbs out for now but would like to see them working properly. Are they supposed to come on when any of the doors are opened, or are they acting in concert with just the rear gate, upper and/or lower?

if you unplug the sensor...they turn off.

Thanks to everyone for their help. Ultimately it just came down to the "slam it super hard" suggestion.
