Going through things at Mom's over the Holidays turned up some bits of treasure. I couldn't believe she still had the Auto-Bingo games my siblings and I played with while traveling in the rear-facing, way back seat of our '72 Fury wagon. Rambler? Studebaker? Imperial? You'd be hard pressed to win the Find-A-Car these days unless you took it to a car show. Anybody else recall playing these games?
Thanks. I never knew there were such games. Of course I'm a little too young for some of this old timers stuff.
I would have won that game hands-down. No one else in my family knew anything about cars...... All we did was play the out-of-state-license-plate thing, and follow along with my dad when he read (with dramatic flair, I might add...) the Burma Shave signs.
For KK...................... We never played car bingo yet oddly enouph I remember old faded Burma shave signs as a kid although I'm a bit younger. While traveling in the sates and dad would read them also.
Very Neat Olds Weighty Eight, I've never seen those bingo cards before. My Sister and I did play who can spot all 26 letters in the Alphabet first when we traveled. Oh and Tedy, We all know...WELL SOME OF US DO ANYWAY that Eisenhower was so impressed with the Autobahns that Hitler commissioned back in the '30s and that IKE used every chance he could the last year or so of WWII that he said WE Gotta git us some ah them big roads back in the U. S. OF A. after this little fight is done with! And that folks was the end of Burma Shave signs around the country on both sides of our friendly border on the two lane roads. BTW, Has anybody 'sides me ever noticed that when any Interstate passes by ANY Military instalation that theirs always a gate in the fence entering the interstate directly with a dirt cross over through the medium so our military can go either way without having to find a clover leaf to go different directions. IKE became our prez. in '53 and the interstates started in '56. actually I think the Pennsilvania turnpike was already under construction in '52 or '53 and Ohio toll road right behind 'um. Sorry for the history rant, Like most old guyz, I get carried away. I'll go take ah nap now, Jer
Thanks Jer BigBarney, F Tedy, and the rest of you for the history leasons. Us kids gotta larn all we can about where we live. Cause they sure don't teach it in skool.
