Hard to say, when was the engine swapped to a 350 and was it rebuilt or just swapped with miles? (are those the KM on the car or the 350?) Before pics prior to the newer paint would help also. It is pricey IMO being a Alberta car but seller is inviting inspections so it may be worth a email/phone call...........

    In a word, no.

It seems like it's in good shape, and I like the way the owner painted the area where the wood grain used to be (nice color combination). Looking at it for myself, I'd be in it at around $3,500..... no more.

When they post $4900, that means it will sell for $4000 cash. With all the upgrades, maintenance, etc done $4000 seems like the number. Who can tell $500 difference either way?

For what it's worth, which may be nothing, the Old Cars Price Guide says a 1983 Chevy Caprice Estate wagon in showroom condition is worth about $3800. In the condition that this particular car is in? The mid $2000's. These numbers seem low to me, but that's what it says.

It probably was, but it wouldn't have had the moldings separating the colors, just maybe a tape stripe. This was a woody.

I am thinking of doing something similar on my CP since woodgrain is so expensive. In my case the base color is deep royal blue so a light to medium tan or redish brown is what I have in mind.

Are you far from this car? I'd give it a look. Go check it out, somtimes the pics look but then in person. The price is relevent, we all have our preferences. I like it but I have a weak spot for these cars.
Good luck and keep us posted. :)

I'm about 3,5 hours away, and i wouldn't mind driving that far but he will not take any less than $4500 for it.
It has a rebuilt crate engine with 40000 kms on it.
I don't want spend more than 3500 on a wagon, 4000 tops but then it has to have everything i look for .
I think 3500 would be more than fair for this wagon, but i would have to put different rims on it:), i do NOT like the wire hubcaps:(.

I did offer him 3500 but he wouldn't even consider it.
Oh well.........i gues we'll just keep lookin:)

Question about that engine. Is it rebuilt or is it a crate engine? If it IS a rebuilt crate engine, there is something wrong there! If it is a GOOD 350 crate engine with 40,000 km on it, that is a brand new engine. If the body work was done well, and properly, with all the work that has been done, it may seem high on price, but to take an average car and do this work to it, you would easily but well over that price! I'm guessing that it has the trailer towing package if it has always been a 3 speed car, which one glance at the PRNDL will tell you. The towing package included the 3 speed, where the V-8 minus the towing package required the 4 speed. Over all, if it is a car you like, and the price is within the budget, I would say it is worth a good look. They don't come up all that often in great shape and very well equipped.

He told me in his email that its a Targetmaster crate engine rebuilt:confused:

I also asked him about any body work that was done and he said they replaced one fender, repaired "surface" rust.

But again, he' s firm on $4500 and i don't see that in it.

Wish i had 9 grand, i would pick up that gorgeous '75 Gran Fury with 13k on it, its only an hour drive from me and i have dealt with the guy in the past, little old school car lot, real nice people:).

Maybe i should sell my company car:yahoo:,lol

For starters, I'm not too familiar with Chevy wagons and values.

But, I'm kinda with Mike on this one. Paint and body work ain't cheap. Depending on the quality of the paint and body, along with the condition of the body before the work (rust, damage, etc), plus depending on the quality of the engine build, you might invest this much (or more) in one that needs a little work, to get it to this level. Now on the other hand, if the work is shoddy and half-a$$, then never mind....
