found a clean 69 lemans safari and turned it into the wagon pontiac should have built.it started life as a 350 2bbl with auto on column.now has a 400 with 6x heads ,torquer 2 intake and factory exhaust manifolds.made 452 horsepower @5,900 rpm and 476 torque @4,000 rpm.i am now in the process of converting to a manual trans.any wagon owners in the pa area? regards, brian
to the wagon train, Brian. Sweet ride!! That is one of my favorite models. Mid 70's heads on a 69, eh? Are those the 6X-4 93cc or 6X-8 101cc heads? I went the other way around and put 1968 #16 72cc on mine.
, your wagon looks just awesome, always loved those Tempest wagon body lines the most...yeah it has to be my favorate "I want one" body style, the GTO look just finneshes it off.:2_thumbs_up_-_anima
I loves me GTOs, prefer the 68 the most, but a 69 is my second choice. I love the looks of a GTO wagon and GM should have produced these.
Love what you have done with the wagon Brian. I'll bet it causes a lot of second and third looks. Barry
Hey Brian, Welcome to the forum! I am in complete agreement with the above posters on how great your wagon is. Love the GTO front end, love the color, love everything about it! Nice job! :2_thumbs_up_-_anima Also like your "one of none" handle. David
thanks for the compliments .....the heads are 6x-8 that have been milled to 95cc.i thought about going with aluminum heads but wanted a more "stock" under the hood appearance.i live in the wilkes-barre area and not far from you stickman.i started the manual trans conversion last weekend and have the old column out and new pedals in but thats as far as i got.i will post some new photos once everything is back in rug, seats etc.i still have the door panels off from when it was painted about 2 months ago. my father bought a 77 grand lemans safari wagon 400 4bbl in 77 when my sister was born.i will post some photos once i can find them.due to us being a one car family and no garage on the east coast the body fell off it before it quit running.it went to the boneyard in around 1995. in 1984 my grandfather bought an 84 olds custom cruiser wagon 307 4bbl.which he had until around 1999 which met the same fate of road salt/rust and no garage. looking forward to putting some miles on the pontiac in the spring as i have only 10 dyno runs and less than 100 road miles on the new engine.i will keep you all posted on my 4 speed progress....brian
Your dyno numbers look pretty good. I have yet to see what mine can do. What cam do you have in it? I'm getting excited to get some more time behind the wheel of my baby. Got some dry weather yesterday and got a nice cruise on the highway. Just about to reach 500 miles of break-in and ready for its first oil change.
Good to know. We should meet sometime and hang out and get pics of the wagons together. But it sounds like both our wagons will be down for some time.
