Never thought wagons like these would ever be available in this small scale (about 2" long). The Mini Metals 1/87 scale "clamshell" Buick Estate wagons have been out for a while. But I didn't realize they released 1974, 1975 and 1976 editions.
The bummer is that they need to make older versions of these models, for installing on open and side-shielded autorack flatcars. But this is cool they're finally doing wagons, as well as special wagons and sedans.
I want to see more 60's American cars (including wagons) in 1/87 scale. But for now, the manufacturers are concentrating on 70's and 80's cars. Meanwhile, Atlas has announce that they are re-releasing the 79-80 Ford Fairmont sedan in 1/87 scale. No word on the wagon yet, but I would expect them to re-release that one as well since they are doing the sedan.
Yeah, the problem is that the Big Four kept changing the body designs of each car coming out. Even when a particular car has two or more years' production, like the Mustang, the Malibu, or the Jeep trucks, there are differences in design details. So model production companies are loathe to produce many iterations of cars and trucks. It really sucks.
I honestly wish they would get back to doing Sixties cars and trucks. I know modelers would buy, although the high prices on the short runs would temper the buying.
