Hi everyone! This forum is soo cool! So today I get to pick up my project car. I am buying A 1983 Caprice wagon, all for the grand total (and to me, a steal) of $500!!!! Im picking it up in the next couple of hours and I couldn't be happier. The paint is very faded and clear coat is beginning to fade, as well as rust on the wheel wells. But what intrigued me and what made me realize what a deal this car is, is that the entire motor has been rebuilt and has had lots of newer parts put in (alternator, starter, radiator). The owner is the ORIGINAL owner which was also a huge plus for me. Im glad the car wasn't bounced around from person to person. Anyways he started it up for me when i came to see the car and wow did it purr, after the car warmed up and the car dropped to idle I could barley hear it running! Also, the carpet vinyl interior apart from a few tears in the front seat is in amazing shape for the age. I will post pictures as soon as I get her back home and into the shed! I love these cars, my grandfather had one that I faintly remember. When I was driving to look at the car I was sayiing to myself to not get emotionally attached in case it was too much work. Well that all went down the drain when he started it up and I sat inside and smelled that 250,000 mile old interior. No musty or greasy smell. The man has babied this car but says hes tired of watching it sit and putting money in it, and he is not out to make a profit. I told him I was much obliged!!
i got a newbie! Welcome from Nova Scotia. Glad to see a "cheap wagon" saved from the derby. Sounds a lot like the car my buddys mom sold after his dad died. But i'm sorry to report i heard it was derby bound.
Is this why you're up at 4:30 in the morning? You're so excited you can't sleep? Sounds like a great car. It's always nice to get a car from the original owner. I was able to do that with my '73 Custom Cruiser. Looking forward to the photos!
to the forum. Glad you found a nice wagon to get you started in years of fun. Hardly wait to see those pictures.
to the wagon train, riggs. GREAT story! I like the 80's GM box wagons. You will have a nice ride down the road in that car!
That is awesome! Yes please send pics when you have them. This body style is very nice, clean and classic.... good job on acquiring this ride!
Welcome aboard. Sounds like you're already attached to your new wagon. Have fun with it and post some pics for us.
I am so happy that you are so happy! Aren't old cars just great!? Don't know why but they just seem to bring out the best memories of the past, and bright hopes for the future. I'll keep an eye out for those pictures.
