    Hi all,

My name is Art, and come have come across this forum due to my incurable disease of having to have old cars around.

I have had some old wagons in the past, like a '65 Sportwagon and a '73 Gran Torino. Currently, I have a '73 Belair wagon, that we bought 6 years ago.
It had then only 12.000 miles on it, was rust free, and we drove it as daily transportation for over 80.000 miles.

It started to (surface) rust a little, so last year I decided to take it apart completely, strip it to bare metal, and treat it to some new shiney paint. It's original color was too ugly for my taste, so that was changed to green metallic. The interior is a brown/ tan, so then there are not many color options.

I went a little overboard perhaps, I do not believe many old wagons are treated this way in the US...demo derby more likely....

Here are some pics of the proces, final detailing is next. By the way, I would really like to find a complete set of chromey trim for the rear window and tailgate area. The lowcost Belair trim was painted body color. Maybe someone has stuff laying around???

The car has found it's new home here in The Netherlands, where it runs on LPG (propane like gas). After the paint, we now have retired the car for vacation/ fun use only!

Art, our job is to prove you wrong.:D That's why we're still here with our wagons in all kinds of states of restoration.

But you're right, too. A lot of wagons die in a Derby. We keep trying to save them somehow. :Welcome:

What a fantastic story and we didn't even ask for pictures. A Chevy being towed on a trailer by a Volvo no less. Great story and a great job.

    :Welcome:

Could a parent take their kids to a dinosaur display and escape without pictures? :D I haven't fossilized, yet, but the car is far from it.:rofl2:

    Nice car! Nice Work!

When my son's '72 Kingswood Estate was for sale, the first question I would ask was (in a positive voice) do you run Derby cars? Most of the responses was a enthusiastic "Yes"! I then explained that the car was too good to crash and refused to sell it to them in a nice way. A wagon restorer finally bought it.

At least on an English spoken board they seem to understand this pun. Here, however, they really think my first name is Harry. I get PM's and e-mails starting with "Dear Harry" :rofl2:
