Just wanted to introduce myself. 1975 Pontiac Grand Safari 455 clamshell. The ride has been in the family since new on my wife's side and we have slowly started the restoration. Thanks for having the forum for wagon lovers!
Welcome aboard. Tell us a little more about your wagon, we like good stories about wagons with history.
Welcome aboard - looks like a sharp wagon you've got there! Way to go keeping it in the family all these years!
------I always smile when vehicles are kept in the family way. Or at least in the family! Have fun here with your new station wagon family.
FW looks like a great wagon, in really good shape. Just wondering what needs to be restored... it looks good from here...with that little, tiny picture.
Ya, tiny pictures after hours of buffing are great!! It has some cancer, a dent in the roof (young cousin "sat" on it) and needs paint. The inside needs carpet and seats need recovered, but we have been cruising it! The story - My Father-in-law bought it new in 75 and used it to haul the 6 kids on trips only. The longest was from Wyoming to Florida. They pulled a camp trailer and took two months to do it. My wife was young, but remembers the entire trip. The car wasn't used much, but when my wife was a senior in high school, she and her friends snuck out, took the car, and recked it putting her friend's head through the glass. The friend was okay, and the wagon survived, but was then parked for the next 10yrs before we got it. So far I have made the car reliable. Brake master, fuel pump, fuel tank, hoses, belts, convert A/C to 134, tires, Edlbrock Performer intake, rebuilt Q-jet, plugs/wires, stearing pump, flowmaster exhaust, air shock, and of course the windshield. Thanks for the welcomes!!
For the dent in the roof, try a toilet plunger. It is amazing how well that works to pull a smooth dent out of sheet metal, and leaves the paint intact, too.
I am Washington state. Thanks for the plunger idea, I will give it a try! Over the weekend the ignition mod went out while driving. Easy fix, luckily I was in town.
Welcome to the group and glad to hear that over the years and despite accidents and such that the car was held on to. I love Pontiacs and clamshell wagons. There is little change GM would make something as unique and complicated as those tailgates today. So cool. Looking forward to more pics and again WELCOME! -Mike
Great way to obtain a wagon - you know its entire history, and can revive the car and many of the fun memories that go with it. Welcome to the forums. If you decide to add a vintage trailer to the program there are quite a few family oriented vintage trailer events. Many wagons are present for those events being the tow vehicle of choice for many vintage wagon and trailer owners.
