Hello all. My name is Ric Campbell and I live in Austin, TX. I have a newly acquired '68 Mercury Commuter. :2_thumbs_up_-_anima The wagons I've had in the past include a couple of '60's VW Squarebacks, a '97 Volvo turbo, a '91 Olds Custom Cruiser, a '60 Mercury Commuter, and a '54 Chevy Handyman. I also drive an '06 Mazda5, which is kind of a wagon/minivan crossbreed. The '68 Merc a good solid driver that needs a little cosmetic work and a little upholstery work. I'm hoping to find some people on this forum that can help with a few missing parts I need, as well as provide inspiration for my future plans for the Merc. I don't even have a good picture of the '68 yet, but here are a couple of things I can show off. This was my '91 Olds Custom Cruiser that I sold a couple of years back. I had lowered it with spindles and springs and put on the American Racing Salt Flat wheels. Other than that, it was pretty much stock. The wagon below is not mine, but I did some of the fab work on it. The car was built by Cimtex Rods for Bruce Ricks. I did the engine compartment sheetmetal. It's won a ton of awards, been in magazines and catalogues, and is definitely one of the coolest cars I've worked on. The best part is that the owner, Bruce Ricks, actually drives it. It's not just a trailer queen show car. You can see more of it here: http://www.bigwigracecars.com/57oldswagon.htm Not wagon related, but if you want to see the metal work I do part time and some of the other cars work on, it's all here: http://www.bigwigracecars.com Thanks for reading. Looking forward to being part of the station wagon forum.
Welcome to the forum, Ric. Very nice collection, and nice work you do there. I've seen photos of Mr. Rick's Fiesta quite often. In fact, pics of it have probably been posted here before. The '57 Fiesta is probably the wagon that I desire the most (but will never own), IMO one of the most beautiful wagons every made. If I were to build one of my own, it would be very close to Bruce Ricks'. Youi'll be getting a lot of "hello's" ffrom other members here all far more knowledgeable that me, and more handy with their abilities as well. Marshall
Ric. That cars looks really stunning, but I absolutely love the look of the olds as well! Clean! I can't wait to see some pics of the Commuter!
Wlcome aboard... looking forward to see some more photos. BTW: recognize this street?: Beautiful city... would like to stay a bit longer next time
Ric this all seems familiar...did you used to be on the LosB board too? Either way...nice stuff...welcome
Thanks for all the welcomes! And, yes, I'm on the Los Boulevardos board, and the HAMB. I just don't post that often because I never have anything to report on my own projects. Always too busy working on customer stuff, so mine gets done last, which usually means never. The good thing about the Merc wagon is that it's already a driver, unlike my other projects, so I can actually enjoy driving it while I'm working on it.
...thought it sounded dejavu!! I havent posted on LB in months....or the H--B in over a year! too much 'fad jumpin' Ive always been a wagon dork....and these are my people to a non judgemental board....just mental
